I personally think that the "lockdown" should have been extended to the end of May, however I'm not running the country and a decision has been made.
The instructions are pretty simple to follow, maintain SD and try to live your life, if that involves staying at home do that, if it means working do that. HM Govt know that we are in this for the long haul, they are trying to ease restrictions so that life appears more "normal". This country does not have the discipline to have an a proper lockdown so we will now have a long period of managing the R rate, managing flare ups in regions/towns as and when they occur.
The issue with this virus is the the disparity of effect it has on people, from no effects to being incubated with a 50/50 chance of survival, no government wants media reports of huge amounts of people being wheeled into a refrigerated lorry parked outside a hospital. It was only 3 weeks ago that we were going through the peak.
I get that people want to get out on the bank, I absolutely do, its great for mental and physical well being. For me it should be local (1hr radius) initially but thats just my opinion. I suppose I'm finding it easier than some as I've done enough 6 month "all inclusives" in my time to know that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree there is definitely a lack of clarity in some areas but i do think that prompting a no from the government about night fishing is a bit daft
If it hadn't been mentioned before, and clearly adds no additional covid 19 risk to us going out to fish then it was a question that didn't need asking.
I doubt whichever minister made that decision would know the difference between camping and carping. To be fair there have been many quiet nights where I've questioned it myself

I heard this explained by a scientist on the radio yesterday. Basically this was his reply to the question on why quarantine now.
So seven weeks ago you have a large amount of the virus circulating amongst the people already here. Let's make up a figure, say there's 100,000 home grown infections. You let in 10,000 infected people from abroad. You've only increased your numbers by 10% which makes almost no difference to controlling the spread at that point.
Then you introduce lockdown and once that has brought the numbers circulating right down, let's say to 10,000, if you then let in 10,000 infected people you've doubled your infection rate.
So basically you bring in quarantine measures for travellers at the point where introducing new infections would make a dramatic difference to the R number. Before that it's just pointless.
I'm not a scientist, I haven't got an ology.

The 4 biggest cities in China have a larger population than the whole of the UK. The population density will be far higher using those as a comparison. Population density only matters if we all go and live in our allocated density space, which we don't.

Totally agree with your first line. Set it for the end of May, lay out the plan, hash it around after people ask stupid questions and whole country good to go 1st June

All I know is, gear/bait/food all sorted. Filled the van up with fuel this afternoon and I'm up at 2am tomorrow and will have sticks in the dirt by first light. Syndicate I am fishing has imposed just one restriction, stay 2m apart if you happen upon another member. Water is nearly 100 acres, so I am sure we'll all find our own space. Common sense, that's all it is. See you all in 10 days

I do agree that more should of been done with our borders, but I think the shear number of people returning home made it impossible to manage effectively, compared with our testing ability being nowhere near ready for what was needed. Hindsight is a wonderful thing,

There is no guidebook for this and they are having to make decisions daily that they are obviously uncomfortable with and some will prove to be wrong. i don't think that this is helped by certain journalists from the BBC, ITV and SKY who are completely defeatist in their attitudes and like to paint the grimmest picture they can.
