A lot of thoughts on this thread.
I think in todays society altogether we forget about history and heritage, and as we do have evolved into a hedonistic, instant lifestyle with no care for anything other than ourselves.
That is society as a whole, not just carp fishing.
The respect for older values has sadly gone.
We have created a market that creates a market for things we don't actually need. You don't need to buy water from the supermarket in plastic bottles, but you do. You don't need to upgrade your reels every 2 years but you do...
Carp fishing has history, from Izaak Walton, to Donald Leney, Richard Walker and how carp were stocked into waters. Those Redmire carp that were stocked in the 1930's and lived to big weights and ling lives until in cases, the 2000's.
The carp of Simmo era, those plastic looking fast growers, that often died at a young age, some at 40lb in less than 10 years of age.
Then we have the same sort of instant growth from Rob Hales, and the need for instant money from 'instant' anglers.
I noticed that many of the advocators of the fast growth big fish seem to be the younger anglers on this thread, sorry, but you may need to learn history and heritage to avoid mistakes of the past.
After every spike we have a crash, and I personally think the peak or spike of carp fishing is starting to crash.

Some very interesting views, imo it's just madness. Can't beat a slow grown natural dark coloured carp
