Cheers,I'm after the automatic spring,and a shim or two,Metal Micky rebuilt a skip found 440a,for my son,the reel looks trashed,but runs like new due to lots of internal new parts,and knowledge from MM..
The ottomatic spring is pain to do...and I've been taking Mitchell's apart since I got caught by my dad stripping an old half bail,300..

Yes,....and its why I love my old Mitchell's..
I get lots of comments from others,like wow my dad had them etc etc..

Interesting thread. I started carp fishing at 15 in Feb '97 after a few years playing about sea fishing. About ten years later through people I met I ended up working for 2 well known carp angling firms. Both experiences were rotten. People throwing cash about, drugs were rife, bullying, homophobia, prostitutes at shows etc. These were my first experiences with all of those things and made me incredibly uncomfortable.
Anyway, long story short I left the second business and just gave up. No desire to fish for carp anymore. I was done.
Until last year that is, I decided during lockdown to have another crack at a sport I fell in love with as a kid. Dusted the gear off and joined a club. Wow. How things have changed! Within 2 trips I was in an argument with a guy who cast across the entire lake and was fishing in my margin! I didn't get it. Had lake etiquette gone out the window completely in the past decade?? Well from the few choice words he called me I guess they had as I was very much in the wrong apparently. I had the last laugh, I got a bite and he packed up grumbling to himself as I played the fish.
Since then I've chosen to fish another lake. Mainly doubles, the odd 20 but I'm so much happier as it's weedy so is avoided by the majority.
Anyway, long story short I left the second business and just gave up. No desire to fish for carp anymore. I was done.

Carp fishing is fantastic if you are on the right venues. Balancing what you are happy with in terms of size of fish, what you are willing to pay for a quiet syndicate and finding decent people to share the bank with is a bit tricky, but there are a lot of good people in the sport

That's not been my experience of working at shows at all. I can't help feeling that I'm missing out. You don't know if those companies have any vacancies do you? :-)
On a serious note you must have been pretty unlucky. Our hotel at the northern last year had Jag,DNA,Sticky, I think Solar plus a load of other companies. The bar was packed in the evenings but there wasn't any behaviour like that going on. It was great fun with all the staff from the different companies mixing in and having a bit of a laugh with each other but I've never witnessed anything like that. Certainly none of the stuff you witnessed.
Sadly your experience at the first lake you fished doesn't seem out of the ordinary at all from the reports I get from people who venture onto those types of water.

As soon as the weather warms up out comes my pair of 1950's era Hardy Palaconias paired with Abu Cardinal 54's.
I only use them on two private still waters and a private river beat, that's probably why I've found just the opposite reaction to them – nothing but questions and genuine interest in the history of everything.
I have to go and explain, that the shorter Rod trend is nothing new as they are 9ft 6”, same with the all metal winch type Reels seat as they were fitted as standard in the 50's, and then explain why some whippings are Copper wire, and the self alignment pins that align the Rod sections precisely for you, the pocket full of elastic bands you use as casting stops, as the Reels don't have any line clips etc..........

I wouldn't say unlucky. More that it was a culture that I found very uncomfortable. On my first day at the second place I was shown and offered cocaine! I'd never even seen the drug before, let alone bought and taken it. It was the norm there, everybody did drugs. The company dealt with it after I complained to be fair to then but it was more a case that the bigger 'name' you were, the more they turned a blind eye to it.
Anyway I'm not here to moan about what used to go on. I'm no longer affiliated with anybody at either business. I was just giving an account on what I'd experienced in angling. I'm just glad I put it to bed and picked my rods up again

It's comical mate, the last 5 years in Carp Fishing has been a joke. Somebody summed it up in this thread. It has become a breeding ground for ****wits that are trying to re-invent themselves with carp fishing being the perfect scenario. Bone idle, work shy tramps loafing around lakes all day sucking up benefits amidst talking ***** about everyone and anything thinking they are the next Terry Hearn / oracle of carp fishing. He said......she said...you heard about.......**** Off....
I'm still confused where the coin comes from to furnish 4/5 days a week on a pond, driving around in spanking tranporters and dollars worth of kit.
Then you have mouthpieces rinsing blokes on vlogs and youtube homemade crappy videos, casting aspersions across a syndicate of mainly decent working class blokes with some little oik calling them noddies......WTF is going on with this carp fishing lark, hahaa,
Ah well - lunch break rant over.....back to the tools.
