I paid £3.70 for my first ever permit.. does anyone every rember the angling times annual match they used to hold on there , every peg all around the lake was taken and top match fishing names from around the country fished it .

I was over at Yateley Angling this afternoon. There was a bunch of leaflets in one of the boxes by the entrance door talking about this place - says the price is £600 a year for two lakes, available from 01 April.

Well that's down from £1,000 last year then.
I'm guessing that none of the rumoured uncaught monsters got caught then, or if they did they certainly didn't get publicised! TBF it's a huge lake, even with a fair bit of pressure, which I doubt it gets, fish could go uncaught for many years.

When we fished it back in the day there were loads of big tench and roach in there. Never saw a carp but that doesn't mean they weren't there. Mind you, any we'd have seen back then would be

just checked their website - that's saying there will be a new price from April as well. £600 for a year sounds pretty reasonable, especially if you like big venues. I'm new to this area, so think I'll be having a look.

If you can afford do it. Used to love fishing there whilst at uni down the road. Was all feeder for bream and roach but the Obelisk held quite a few wildies which used to be fun. Never carp fished, as per Ken never knew there were any in the main lake, but a nice place to angle

26lb common carp found dead in 1920's (I think) according to Chris Ball's book, so the lake obviously has some history!

It certainly looks good - there's a short video about it (with Simon Crow) which I've just watched, and even at £600 I reckon I'd get my money's worth out of it over a whole year. Rules say you can fish for 5 days on, 3 off - that's a possible 225+ days in a year, less than £3 per day if you did the lot! Can't do that myself
but still looks pretty good value. Going to have to get myself fit though, judging by the size of it haha.

Are boats allowed? Would be handy on a water that size.

Haha, that reminds me of a story........
A few years ago they used to allow bait boats on VW. They also hired out the grounds for filming feature films etc.
I think it was one of the early Harry Potter films, where they spent ages setting up a scene with a very atmospheric setting of the lake in the background, they spent hours setting it up, hours.
Anyway the director was finally happy, action was called and the actors started doing their acting bit when suddenly the director shouts 'CUT!.... WHAT THE F ***** HELL IS THAT?' Sure enough chugging across the background out in the lake was a bait boat! Bait boats were banned from then on.
Someone will now tell me that this is an urban myth, but it's a good one anyway!
