Quick answer (don't have time right now) ...
With a semi-fixed lead clip set up you are relying on the lead (hanging down off the lead clip), to catch something in the lake and get stuck to discharge it.
Long shot!

That really depends on the weight of the lead and how you set the tail rubber.

Makes no difference if the lead doesn't snag.
And most of us won't set the tail rubber too loose in case of a loss lead on impact.
Heavier lead = more mouth damage... give 'em an eight ounce lead... in some lakes by the time they find a snag the mouth will be totally f*cked if the lead even comes off . ( the lead clip system will probably be encumbered by weed and silt to an extent to inhibit it's release) , too a much worse extent than the the snapped line end.
Irony or what
'Semi fixed' lead clips in conjunction with barbed hooks is the best thing ever invented to create
Parrot mouthed Carp.
Chew on that one to all you 'semi fixed' lead clips fan boys.

I can tell you from experience that a 6oz lead on a properly set lead clip, dropped on a clean spot will eject on the take with no mouth damage. The lead does not need to snag on anything. You just have to use the correct equipment, set up correctly for the situation and conditions.

Lol, BS. I can tell you from experience the leads don't always come off, unless you are willing to lose the leads on the cast impact. e.g totally loose tail rubber which most anglers won't be using anyway.
When the fish shakes the pressure is more on the swivel\clip .. the lead just folds back.
If you push the tail rubber on properly (wetted and enough to stay on the cast \ impact) some fish can't shake the lead off until mouth damage is done. (with a barbed hook)

I'm talking about a specific situation where you can drop a heavy lead on a spot that you can see and feel it to the bottom without the surface impact of a cast . This might be dropping in the edge, wading out and dropping or dropping from the side of a boat. If you set the tail rubber up correctly then you will eject the lead on the take. That is a fact that anyone who does this type of fishing will know.

You are only referring to your own experience of generic carp fishing where you cast from a bank.

Yup, fair enough, I totally agree in such a scenario.

Nobody has mentioned the mcf style dumper clips. They need a PVA wrap to cast, but always drop the lead.
Useful if you really want this.

Quickly...
Free running rig (no lead clip) or if you want to use a lead clip, make sure it's not fixed \ semi-fixed (both the same - it's fixed! ) .
In other words don't lock it to the swivel. (peg or otherwise.)
Squeeze the swivel down so the lead clip can pop off with slight resistance.
Basically a free running rig with a lead clip.
Heli rig another option, done right of course.
I know where this will go, and I know what the stupid argument is for a fixed lead clip, and we had a massive 4 page topic on it years ago.
But fixed lead clips are one of the worst ideas ever. Not just the from the Carp's mouth point of view, but also the bite indication.
BTW, it all doesn't matter if you use a barbless hook.

Let me get this right, you are associating mouth damage to the carp picking up your bait, getting hooked, and shaking its head with a lead on?

Nothing to do with playing the fish, pulling the opposite way to where its trying to swim, and pulling it at various different angles during the fight, the hook maybe slipping as the hook hold wasnt great?

Before anyone starts, we all try our best not to cause any mouth damage to the fish, but sometimes, the hook is going to slip and move about. There are so many factors that you cant control.

The lake I fish has some really daft rules:

We can fish only one rod
barbless hook or barb crashed down (I completely agree with this one)
Not any type of boat allowed,
1 kilo of bait (boilie or particle no matter, but only one kilo) per day,
we can't set up a brolly even if the sky is pouring down everything (only umbrella allowed)
In March all fishing closed for (trouts?) spawning
Close season between may 15th to June 30th, this time the close season is for carp's spawn (the time's Carps spawn there happens almost every year in July, but they don't know) but only by night, during daylight we can fish for Carps, very odds.

But what happened recently has something incredible, at least to me: a guy was fishing a signed "night-fishing-hallowed-swim" and the fishing police (I don't know how I could call it, maybe bailiff, but here in Italy they are a branch of one kind of police) turned up with their pistols hanged off the belt and after they checked the fishing license and the hook (obviously the only rod that's fishing he had been forced to reel in to check it out if the barb is present) they come up with an unexpected news: they told him that if the angler fished by night he needs a rubbery landing net, instead for day fishing the classic landing net we always utilise it's up for the job, as (for them) night fishing is apt for catch and release and there's need of a rubbery net.
Are you sure?
