I was thinking I could attach my aforementioned bungee cord to some pegs in the ground. Then dismissed the idea because I can't be bothered getting anything into the ground, which I why I use a pod.

Eh? Just seems pointless, and a bit of kit you are carrying about which you don't need to? If you're pushing sticks into the ground anyway then why bother? If you can't get sticks in then fair enough a pod may be the way to go. Never said it was wrong, it's your kit,do what you want with it. Just seems pointless. No need to be a knob about it
