Was watching some fellas pull a car engine out of a lake with magnets on YT, the magnets nowadays are proper things and super powerfull.
Put some metal in the leads somewhere and they can be retrieved, wouldnt mind doing a bit of that to be honest messing about.
If it was my lake i would not be leaving all that lead down there, no way.
The type of fishing we do you must drop the lead or you aint getting the fish in, just aint happening so drop the leads it is but im never comfy with it, just from a point of leaving all that in lakes and the water table.

A good idea, but would need to be regulated by the owners, imagine someone turning up next to you and flicking a magnet out and all of a sudden you get a run
One day a year in winter you just magnet fish the lake and get the leads out, either sell them or see if people want to reclaim them. Not sure why that couldnt happen, youd bring in any other old metalwork that's down there too I guess.

Shut the lake for a week or 2, some general maintenance to the pegs and grounds, give the fish a rest and get your leads out.

So what about the lake owners who advocate the use of dropping leads incase the fish gets weeded up or tethered

You can yeah. Using a double ringed swivel and feeding the line / leader over the lead
