I would never consider alps. A piece of metal on a rod that cant flex. No thanks.
Ive seen snapped rods due to alps at a well known rod builders workshop.

For what its worth only last week I've been ripping 4oz leads in pva bags full of hemp oil braid straight through 160yrds treb lights 13ft alps shiney seats no issues at all
If I felt that thete was an issue I think I would have known by now?
I get the mechanics but it ain't happening.
More of an issue in the mind than out in the field
Get your rods loaded up properly then we would know.

Unfortunately I already know I have broken them multiple times on 15lb line. God only knows what they would end up looking like if I put a shockleader on!. If I was to fish a solid bag with a braided leader I have no doubt it would break it might take 20 casts but it would break.

Perhaps the rods that have had issues are softer in the butt section than others.

If the butt bends under load and the reel seat is a close fit with very little or no packing to allow the flexing a shear point will be created. The blanks I've heard of snapping century c2d I believe have a fairly thick diameter butt that is designed to bend a little under load while the fma2 is a stiffer parallel butt with less flex to it although I haven't heard of these snapping I expect someone has.

If the snapping is a result of the blank flexing at the butt wouldn't we see more issues with the lighter/more flexible rods fitted with Alps - armalites, normal C2s, etc rather than just the C2Ds?
