Had exactly the same, only mine was at work, never felt so much pain instantly, my 2 fishing injuries were.... fishing a reservoir with low water level, I was stood on a steep concrete slope, as I cast I felt a lot of resistance but still give it the big un, I had caught the scales with the rig they flew up......and up.... and came down and wacked me on the nut oh how I laughed (not).


I was walking round the lake with a bait bucket, too busy looking everywhere except where I was going, suddenly both feet shot to my left, over I went landed on the bucket, cracked several ribs (I thought) when I got to hospital the nurse confirmed there were no injuries and I was behaving like a big girls blouse Mmmm.

4oz lead in the side of the head and ear, pulling a big ball of weed in when the lead came free, flees straight up and nearly took my head off. Seeing stars and a lot of blood as it gashed my ear open.

I was on the opposite bank and two pals woke me up one evening and as I watched one of their Faces drip skin across the boards I was fishing it was somewhat of a concern.

A pal thought it's would be fun to try a ignite patrol whilst blowing it out of his mouth having supposedly done it many times before. Music playing and no doubt a few beers flowing and whilst the other pals had a camera rolling sad dude tried just that. Well the flames quickly spread and followed the path to source and as I watched the video recording I was shocked as I saw his face go up in flames.

At the time I was woken up, shown video and informed that said pal was perfectly fine. As his face dropped onto the board and me being in a little shock I insisted he get savalon applied to face and get his arse to A&E asap. He literary looked like desperately dan without a jaw instead of a beard.


12 hours later he returned looking like a mummy.

The story his wife heard was his Colman's went up.

The most impressive part was that within a week he was totally healed.

I was 25 years ago and had a rig with leadcore lead and rig with a size 8 centurion and decided to underarm swing it to the base of my thermoset needless to say in doing so the hook turned and caught my finger and embedded it's self. An hour and a half later with lots of sweat I finally removed it from said finger.

I've been lucky touch wood.

Last week on way back from 24h I thought I'd stop off at one of the other club lakes... walking around i lost footing or bank was undercut or something and heard an almighty crack as I went balls deep into the margin, managed to scramble back to solid ground but on trying to stand up my leg was like a piece of string and bulging in odd directions, thought I had snapped my thigh bone...Panic setting in as I was wet and cold On an empty lake which isn't fished that often this time of year with no phone signal (deepest darkest Cornwall) Managed to drag and hobble on a stick about 500yards back to my car and managed to call an ambulance. Currently waiting surgery for ruptured quads/tendons and no driving at lease 3/4 months...

Chap I used to fish with caught his nut sack on a barbed wire fence whilst wading on a Scottish Loch (pike fishing) - there was a lot of blood and screaming! Needed stitches, but you'll be relieved to learn he didn't lose any testicles.

Me? Had plenty of hooks in me - well, I do a lot of lure fishing for pike, so now and again it can happen, no matter how careful you are. Usually push the barb through, cut the hook with knipex cutters and patch it up myself. But on one occasion I tried to hand land a big fish that suddenly tail walked as I lifted it and a 2/0 treble in the wrist. Very painful and my whole left hand went numb. After a long wait in casualty, I had to stay in hospital and have a plastic surgeon remove it next day, else I could have had permanent nerve damage. I still have the x-rays - nicked them from my notes before I left. LOL.

Worst I personally know of is a mate (pike fishing again) who had some fairly minor cuts to his hands from gill rakers turn septic. He was in hospital for a week and nearly died of septasemia.

When I lived in Southampton I had a Gardner baiting needle stuck in my thumb(the one that retracted into itself) I cut the needle wrapped some tissue round it and black insulation tape round it and carried on,every time my dog knocked me it hurt my partner at time offered to take me to hospital but I left it for 3/4 days then went when I was ready to go.
They told me it was a good job it was so clean, I had to have 5 jabs to numb the thumb and then the put a hollow needle down it to and got it out luckily it didn't have a latch on it.

This was a long time ago,in the era of Bill Thurston and mk3 bi tech vipers..

So ,I'm fishing out on Bodmin moor,and have been lucky to be sole angler,fish were uncaught and size unknown,all is good ..Game on..

Its january,and I'm doing a day session, when people say ahhh,I fished this lake its isolated,I mean this place was really isolated..!!..

Gear as always minimal but back carried..the lake is interspersed with humps n bumps and significant shallows,cruising around the mid layers looks like a very tidy mirror,size unknown,but most likely my potential PB at this time..

Using mitchell 300 reels and some early shimano x carp rods,I'd flicked two long pop ups in the general direction of this fishes path...nowadays they are called zigs..!!

I try and make a brew, using a rubbish blue camping gaz stove,the gas hissing from the pierceable gas bottle,

At this moment,I'm away,.....two lbtest 11 fters bent over happy days,til this fish kited right and into the overhang treeline,and it was stuck fast...I could see this mirror ,it was big and was my potential PB.. but my landing net wouldn't reach to net it,so I strip off down to my pants and in I go,only to sink in the silt which I didn't realise was that deep..

So I'm now stuck,the fish has freed itself and bogged off,but I'm stuck..miles from anywhere..

So I gave my stuck leg the big one,out it came,with a strange click,basically I'd wrecked my knee..


Never ever go in for a fish....lol....

Fishing a little like with my old man 3 years ago February, got a bite while I was facing away from the lake, I twisted, bent down and picked the rod up, something went in my back and both legs just crumpled and I hit the deck. I couldn't move, the old man packed my gear up and got everything back to the car, somehow I drove home, luckily it was about 8 min drive.

Got home and the mrs helped me out and got me to the bed. Couldn't get in at the chiropractor so had to wait. Got up about an hour later and made a sandwich and it didn't feel too bad, the mrs had gone to work by now. When I went to get up an hour later my legs wouldn't work. They wouldn't support my weight and I was in agony. I couldn't get to the toilet, I was getting desperate.

Had to ring the on call doctor to get some painkillers

The next few weeks was not a lot of fun, pissing into a bottle as i couldn't get to the loo. About 500 quid in the chiropractor's over 2 weeks

I've had back issues for years but I've never panicked like I did go the first few days.

To top it off the gear didn't get taken out of the car for over a week, the car stank of wet nets for a while.
