Do you think you would actually notice 100g extra at the reel when you've got 5oz+ 10ft along the lever?
Anyone care to do the calculations of what that weight becomes at your end?

) so I may be well out with my calculations, but 5oz loaded spomb needs 25oz at the handle to hold it, I think that means 50oz at the fulcrum(the reel hand) before we add the weight of the rod and reel. And that's just to hold it still!

The weight argument also needs to consider the weight of the rod, and the balance of the set up. For example, on my Rockford days, for while I used the Shimano Big pits with Century FMJ's - it weighed a bloody ton and my wrist and elbows started aching after a few long chucks. Changing to lighter rods (weight) in the form of Harrison Chimera's solved that problem totally.
I can see the logic of an argument for a reel that might weight 100-150g less, but in a practical situation, on a balanced set up, I've not noticed any difference for this weight differential.
The weight argument also needs to consider the weight of the rod, and the balance of the set up. For example, on my Rockford days, for while I used the Shimano Big pits with Century FMJ's - it weighed a bloody ton and my wrist and elbows started aching after a few long chucks. Great point diggs
100g seems trifling, it's such a punny amount hardly worth even considering especially in the context you've put it in. I think that over time like I was trying to illustrate in my post that weight saving is only really noticeable at range, after all, you do have to reel in after you've cast whereby a lighter reel would make some differences.

You know, for some time I've been trying to rationalize why having a lighter reel might make a difference as I've been tempted to buy a set of Aero Technium's. The only thing apart from being easier when you're repetitively casting - however marginal - is quicker hand speed (apologies for repeating myself) which equates to longer ranges for which these big pit reels are designed for. Obviously we're not constantly banging a lead to the horizon, though having a reel that can get you big distances when needed...

Sorry for late reply only just seen your post.I liked the reel itself but I just felt I was losing distance on the cast maybe down to the 35mm spool and the line lay.I was hitting better distances when i borrowed my mates Penns
