Not many can predict wind direction changes, not even you.
It's a phenomena called consideration, in other words, other people exist alongside you, let's spare a little thought for them. Burning rubbish can wait, if it was only organic matter it will break down, if not then it will still be there for you later.
However, if one self centred clown decides their actions are just fine another dozen will follow suit.

Considering no smoke would blow in to any houses regardless if wind direction. And if it did reach them
It would not be but a mere whiff, not thick enough to severely affect anyone with any respiratory illnesses, covid19 related or not. Is it the worst thing in the world?

This is why I used the term 'phenomena' to describe the act of showing consideration for others,it's like it's some sort of mythical state of being rumoured to exist but nobody willingly subscribes to.

just seems as though all this negativity to anyone stepping out their house or going about their business will ruin the country quicker than the virus will. A bonfire at any time of the year could cause distress to anyone with any respiratory illness, so why now are people calling the fire brigade but they never have done before? I think what Pooter is implying is that rules are not made to apply to sensible people, they are made to restrict the activities of the feckless and stupid who will follow suit to what they see another idiots doing.

The local Facebook group. They did indeed. They saw it and left. I gather the “raging inferno” reported which was actually a smouldering heap by the evening was not deemed worthy of being put out. Bare in mind the fire was started at around 3pm but people started moaning on Facebook and reporting it hours afterwards.

I'm still just wondering why now, with this virus a bonfire isn't acceptable because respiratory illnesses exist outside of ones bought on by this virus.
Pooter do you oppose bonfires and bbqs year round? Or just now? If so, can you explain why when respiratory illness exist year round.

So the fire brigade got 8 separate calls, did they turn up?
Maybe it was the time 3pm especially if it's a smelly fire where manmade materials are being burned.
Although there is no law it is considered inconsiderate to have a fire at that time, it's more neighbourly to start fires at dusk.

Yes they did turn up. I said that. And they drove off. It was brambles and wood burning only. I walked past it on my daily exercise. 8 people on the Facebook post said they'd called it in so unless they lied the emergency services got 8 calls about it.
No one reported it until about 6/7pm. The fire was gone, it was smouldering by then. The time that it is neighbourly time have one.

I don't think they have, I don't think this incident is coronavirus related.
Fire brigade should only turn up if a bonfire is out of control so to me it's more than nosey neighbours they should be done for making multiple unnecessary emergency calls.

I read this thread every night after work, and I'm going to have to stop as it just keeps on highlighting what is wrong with our society. I'm in the military so I suppose being told what to do is the norm, but all we have been asked to do is stay at home, not split the atom, put a man on the moon or open heart surgery. Thats it, yes its boring, yes it's frustrating, but it's that easy. The simplest way of saving a life ever, FACT as Rafa would say.
I'm threaders with driving home every night seeing the local Tour de France of people who have never seen a bike before, groups of kids, the list goes on. People think that cos the sun is out and we've done 2.5 weeks its job done, embarrassing.

A huge thankyou to you and the rest of you guys and ladies that are serving the nation .My uncle did 36 years in the R.A.F and my nephew did a stint but had to be medically discharged.If I could go back,I would join the military
