Interesting though, a couple of years ago I bought a couple of Korum big river barbel rods when they came out, around £50 each and had the sea guide rings fitted, Daiwa we're putting these on all their top end match rods!
For me cheaper rods have a higher resin content than a quality carbon blank and you can feel it
And the thread, historical 3 1/2 test, I would not call 3 1/2 test pokers historical myself
