I remember reading in Chris Yates classic book, Casting at the Sun, that the carp in the famous Bernithan Court lake all spawned in one night. Same age, same stock. Out current mix of year classes and manipulated strains cause spawning to last many weeks with different groups and ages taking their turn.

...and why o' why aren't carp breeders simply triploiding them? We don't want the prodigy, we don't want the related stress, we don't want to have to stop fishing. I think triploid carp would show increased growth too.

I think you might be surprised just how many fishery owners do want the offspring. Quite a few are gathering spawn and fry to raise, initially in IBC's and then dedicated stock ponds.
