I learnt a tip from Jim Gibbinson years ago:
Size your casting weight to where you want to cast.
Sounds weird, but if you can cast 100metres with a 3oz lead, but only 90 with a 3oz lead and a 5 bait stringer, and your spot is 90metres, use the 5bait stringer.

So maybe your spot is 85metres, and you can reach it just, with a 7bait stringer, then use a 7 bait stringer.

Or equivalent with a small mesh, bag etc. You have to make the mesh or bag the same size every time.
