quick question on storm poles.. when i hit them with a rubber mallet to drive them into hard ground it seems to knacker the insert part so that the top section wont slide in properly - are you not supposed to be hitting them with a mallet?!

I find a sledge hammer better. Just make sure you give
them a real hard whack

Look for palm saver on e Bay. Mod one might meet your needs. However you really shouldn't need to hammer in storm poles. They are more for tensioning the shelter than pinning it down. If you've pegged it out securely it should be ok

depends on where you are fishing but people don't tend to use mallets for fear of scaring the fish.

some storm poles have threads in the points - these are best screwed into the ground.

if you are going to use a mallet on a storm pole, take the inner pole out first & use it on the outer part only. when it's in place, slide the inner in afterwards.

My monkey/forge brolly came with magnetic adapters for the poles,it's not something I would have bothered with normally,got to say there excellent.
I didn't know solar made something similar.

My Korum brolly came with a couple of poles that have a thinned down tip of around 2 inches and are brilliant because the storm pole doesnt do the work, the ground peg does. You use the storm pole only to tension so you have the forces working in different directions.
