I agree 100 percent. Makes absolutely no difference on a carp fishing setup whatsoever. Long trotting on a pin, or flicking delicate flies around then it matters, but on carp gear? Nope.

I've got lure and fly rods I prefer tip heavy as after a cast they naturally fall into the right position to retrieve how I want. My carp rods have a really light tip and bigger reels so that after a cast the tip recovers faster and closer to the optimum point of release. My float rods I prefer balanced or ever so slightly tip heavy.
I think being balanced is a happy medium if you don't know what it is you need

Yeah, if your carp rods spend all day on the rests I agree... but, try floater fishing for several hours with an unbalanced outfit and you'll soon realise where the issue is. I still prefer a balanced set-up, so much nicer to use and after all, you wouldn't put 4000 size bait runner on a 13ft carp rod or a big baitrunner on a 10ft carp rod... but it makes no difference on carp rod
BTW, Jack Simpson was a bit more than a man who owned a tackle shop - Simpsons of Turnford or KM rods ring a bell? I knew Jack quite well, even fished with him a few times. If he was demonstrating how to balance a rod and reel to a customer, he wouldn't be doing it to sell reels. He knew what he was doing, the man was a legend

I currently fish with four different set-ups and I use different reels on each, then I have floater and stalking rods. You wouldn't put the same reel on every rod would you? If the answer to that is yes, then I am clearly wasting energy even replying.
