Gardner Diamond File mate - best one out there. It was the original file that was used for years under the radar. Easy to use and perfect tool. Bit pricey but will last for years.

I did originally find them a little small/thin so have used a DMT Dia-Sharp Mini-Hone to really get the points sharp, it's the red handled one you want, best used for small sharpening jobs not taking off bigger areas of metal.

I recently got the NGT file, £4.50 from fishing republic, free shipping. Jason Rider mentioned them in a podcast. Seems decent for touching up the hookpoint.

Without reading through the whole thread has anyone else noticed the jag and thinking anglers files last all of 5 minutes

If its the thinking anglers pen thing, it will be clogged with coatings, give it a wash, then use a decent pencil rubber on it to get some more use out of it.
Files also clog, get a file card for a couple of quid to unclog it.
Jag stones clog the quickest, but are easiest to clean if you rub the two together

I'm talking about the actual files and have had both feel really weird within about 10 uses of few strokes each

I've not seen a thinking anglers file, just a diamond pen.
Diamond files should be used wet to help prevent clogging, and cleaned off after use
A file card should bring a metal file back to life, hook coatings really are a bitch for clogging tho.
If they are dead, have a look at vallorbe files as they specialise in them, I use an 8 inch fine version, this is probably a fair bit coarser than a jewellers file, it shapes the hook quickly but care is needed to avoid the very point. A 6 inch fine cut will be finer and more tackle box friendy I then finish off with a nagura stone to give an ultra sharp, highly polished point which resists rust longer than if you use a coarser abrasive
