They can be picked up very cheap is the picture quality good ?
Also looking at the Canon 60D anyone got any views on that for self takes and which lens would be good for self takes ?

Decent enough.
I remember Ian Poole used to have a canon 620 as a backup to his dslr and he has had a few cover shots from the little cannon. Same quality (or above) on the others too.
