Apart from a few on here that might buy a bit of tackle now and again from the EU do many people buy other stuff? I can't think of anything myself.

I can understand Mal getting upset though if his fur coat turns up with extra costs

I read today that UK customs is asking for bond guarantees for the vat value of things coming into the U.K, so for eg, a truck carrying 200k of goods is being asked for a 40k bond. Some european hauliers are refusing to bring stuff to the U.K until it's sorted out as they can't afford the bonds.

Also read the customs form demands are being changed sometimes weekly...wth.. meaning if it's been in transit a week it'll probably have out of date forms, also read things are being turned away without any reason given.

My order from Carplounge has been at customs clearance in NL since Sunday, just spoke to DPD, it may take another week such is the back log.

I'm the same waiting for a Carplounge delivery. DPD has had it 2 weeks now and it isn't moving in their German system from being "received".....

No I'm wrong it is now moving , just the wrong way!..

At parcel delivery centre.

I moved over to France in October and prior to Brexit anything I ordered from the UK was delivered in a few days. Since Brent finally happened its all gone tits up, I am now waiting weeks for anything to be delivered even after paying the extortinate duties which tend to increase total costs by around 20%.

I do wonder if the idiots who voted to leave the EU had any idea of the consequences, of which cross border supplies is the tip of the iceberg.

Sorry to hear that guys
@the poacher, I read a piece from Daniel last night talking about patience and that CL would be absorbing re send costs from customs. Now I read that as, if it's rejected customs are taking the charge already levied, so when CL resend, CL have to meet the fee again. Now if CL cocked up it's hard to vilify customs but imagine if it's not CL fault, the costs
I believe a whole consignment from CL including boats was turned back. Now from my experience over the years CL have a pretty easy going attitude (which I like) but I think once these extra charges start mounting they're going to have to 'tighten' some things up. Also makes you wonder if they'll shift U.K boats warranty/servicing to the U.K, it would make sense.
I don't go on FB from month to month so may have missed something and am happy to be corrected.

@snapper, to be honest your last 3 lines I can understand and it'll probably only get worse. The younger generation expect everything NOW due to the way the world is on social media, they think nothing of sending the same query multiple times per day to multiple platforms at that company, imagine multiplying that by several million things in back log. I remember reading a post on FB from a CL customer, he was literally furious as no one had replied to a e-mail he'd sent that morning and chased up 6 TIMES THAT DAY....imagine being that company if that's the 'norm'.

@38, bugger off to the Brexit thread, insult people there

Agreed I remember doing mail order, sending a cheque and having to wait until it clears before they even thought of sending.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to go back to those days, it is nice to get things promptly but I have no problem waiting a few days to get something

I ordered a few little electronic components online on Jan 9th. From what I thought was an Italian company (site in Italian, head office in Milan, Italian VAT number etc). Although they cost less than 3 eur I stumped up a total of 17 Eur including 24hour delivery (the only option). Once my payment had gone through I got an email from them saying the goods were being sent from the head office/warehouse in the UK. Still haven't got it, and the envelope is still in the UK.

Looks like the warm nostalgia of having to wait longer for stuff is the only tangible benefit of brexit.

Where is the delay though in the system? Last Friday, I got a thank you from my Son for his Xmas card and today I got a thank you from his girlfriend for her Xmas card. Both were sent a week before Xmas together on the same day and they live in the same house. Five weeks to deliver a first class letter!!!!!!

So, even the Royal mail is still running late.

DPD have just informed me my parcel has been returned to sender
Human error, incorrectly filled out documents, must be costing business a fortune.

echo Jon's comments there - well done your son and his girl

My local postie tells me that there's been a massive increase in demand - online shopping obviously, plus the handling of posted covid test kits - up against post office branches closing / staff absence due to isolating / illness. they're feeling it like any other industry that employs people i guess.

there's always the Amazon delivery approach - send a message saying it was 'handed to recipient' even though you weren't even at home when they supposedly did this.... or say the item was left 'in porch' - which would be great if I actually had one...
