What do you when you can't walk back, say you have a swim that's in a small thicket, cast over thicket and unpick line from trees to your swim? Just use some banksticks if you don't want to buy purpose made distance sticks, saves so much agro...you'll thank me 👍

I'll fess up straight away, old school idiot......
Don't understand the wrap stuff at all.
1 wrap seems to be based on one length of a rod whether it be 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13ft, on top of this I still haven't figured out if a wrap is the distance between the sticks or from one stick to the other and back as the convention seems to differ.
I think it's a good system, but not a standard
For me a yard is a yard and my little golfy machine with powegum suits my style

Say you're spot is 10 rod lengths out (but you don't know that it's 10 rod lengths yet) and you've cliped up to that spot - let's just use rod lengths for now, could be anything you want, bees wings or length in Mars bars if you wanted - you wrap.your line around two sticks that are equal to the length of rod you're using...10 times and you'll hit the the clip. 10 rod lengths, a thousand bees wings, 500 Mars bars. That's all there is to it.

I think you've missed my point,
Let's say I'm off to a new lake in France and I'm after some advice on spots on here from a certain swim.
10 wrap advice could mean anything, 80 yards is pretty specific

Yes but the general consensus is 1 wrap is 4 yards (12ft rod length) so 10 wraps is 40 yards, 80 yards is 20 wraps and so on, it's very simple really

To convert yards to wraps devide by 4,to convert wraps to yards times by 4. Simple maths 👍

You do the calculations for however long your rods are, you know? To do the calculation for 80yds for 12ft rods, it's 80 รท 4 = 20 12ft rod lengths/wraps
11ft rods = 3.67yds
10ft rods = 3.3yds
9ft rods = 3yds and so on

It's just modern terminology mate. A yard will always be a yard, it's just that bods wrapping their lines around banksticks or marker sticks will use the term wraps instead of rod lengths (20 wraps = 20 rod lengths) regardless of how long your rod is.
