I have done but don't anymore.
Depends what you want to do protein wise (see other thread for my thoughts on this in winter).
There's better sources of protein than nut meal that's for sure.
That being said, a sweated up nut bait can be an awesome catcher! But that's nothing to do with the protein aspect.

I think you could use pretty much any yellow egg food types tbh. It's just that was the combo I used back then. Cede has some added bits that Necta didn't. The Orlux and Versele Laga ones are good.
And yes, swapping an ounce for yeast as per Jim's suggestion is no bad idea.
My recipe is old, as I said, 92 I started using it, so it almost certainly can be bettered (hydro Whey for example) but my reason for posting it was really as it was simple in being just 5 powders, and it rolls OK too.

I am fond of playing with amylase but not in a boilie mix!
On the right lines though. You've either been listening to my podcast or you think the same as me

That's the line I'm taking with my mix(as well as yeast and bacterial activity) . A couple of things over the last 18 months have piqued my interest, but I've only been able to do one at a time with a ready rolled bait. Add to that a recent revelation (for me at least) and I've got to give it a go.

Great reply. That recipe looks a good bet as a base to tinker with a few additions of modern ingredients. Including a nutritional liquid like csl

So I've worked out that my mix has 11% fat per kilo dry mix, which will increase with hemp oil and eggs.
Is this a concern? The baits been doing well but I have a nagging worry about the fat!

It sort of depends where the oil content comes from?

Predominantly it's coming from the lamlac, soya, clo and nut meals

Lamlac is 100% fine in winter. soya is OK if levels are not too silly. CLO is different from one supplier to the next in my experience, I tend not to use it for that reason (little consistency). It should be OK though as its not that high in oil when you look at the overall mix.
The nut meals would concern me the most. They need to be fresh as the oils in nut meals oxidise quite quickly. This is always the case with nut meals, nut just this time of year, and is the one reason I don't tend to use them. When I did use them I milled my own (with a coffee grinder) so they are fresh for the mix

Just a thought that I've had but if for instance we said that an acceptable fat content would be 10% and we used micronised cereal, de fatted soya, skimmed milk powder etc then you could make a virtually fat free bait? Would it therefore mean that we could add say 6% fat as a bulk oil like cod liver, winterised salmon therefore needing 60ml ish oil/kilo of mix and still come in at less than 10% oil. I'd be happier being in control of which oil source was in the bait.
