Same as garden centres opening. Not essential and they're going to be heaving, but it's a massive industry that is going to be struggling if they're not allowed to start selling all the billions of plants that have been growing over winter and early spring. It's a hell of a decision the government has got to make, whatever Boris says to he's going to get flack.

Wasn't it the non essential travel and stay home message that was the main reason for lakes closing originally? If that is eased then it may be down to lake owners and anglers as to wether or not they go/open. Angling was never really highlighted at the start when we first locked down...

No garden centres aren't essential but they've made it quite clear if they hang on much longer there won't be a garden centre. The financial problem of loosing to many plants will cripple most garden centres

Was told my cousin who is a head bailiff and also by another bailiff that among the obvious another reason they wont open and will follow trend with other fisheries is that they will get slated on social media

So is the message of unlimited exercise clear? What does that even mean hardly anyone exercises more than once a day. If they scrap the stay home message to “stay alert” what does that mean? Can we go out or not!

ive said all along...we wont be able to fish until mid june at the earliest

People are fishing everywhere, I see them every week on my journey up to London along the M3. I also know there were people fishing off the coast near bognor yesterday because I saw the photographs taken by a friend who lives there.

People are currently fishing because they are either just ****s or feel a higher level of self importance. The resources aren't there to police it. Same reason they're tugging cars out in the sticks but I'm stood here watching a constant flow of heavy traffic including groups of mates in 1 car and people so obviously out selling drugs going unchallenged.
All these threads are evidence that they couldn't previously allow a mass return to angling normality because so many variables exist, travel times and distances etc.

Out of interest I wonder how many anglers there actually are that are furloughed who would be expected to descend on lakes once they open. I've a feeling it may not actually be that many as many key workers/builders (some are working) or elderly people self isolating wouldn't really be able to take advantage of a relax in the rules.

Unfortunately we will be in lockdown longer because of these selfish people who can't keep themselves in lockdown for the sake of everyone else.
I despair at the people round my area. Only yesterday I took the dog for a walk to see twenty odd people in close proximity sunbathing and playing games on my local common.
