I got told the Nivara's seemed to go through head gaskets fairly regularly or is that the older models I'm thinking of?!

would have loved a VW caddy but the mpg was not good enough for my pocket. Ended up with a berlingo enterprise van. Rods go corner to corner in the back easy and I can put a bedchair up in the back with the passenger seat flat for trips when fishing out of the back of the van, 60+ mpg which is great, but the van is **** in mud tbh.

I've got a mitsubishi l200 barbarian, upgraded from a citroen Berlingo mainly for shooting. The older models 15plate and older have a drop down rear window in the cab. Mine is fitted with a back, simply drop the cab window down and open the same window on the back and slide rod holdall in. Had mine loaded with 2lots of gear no problem. Only downside is the l200 is much thirstier than the Berlingo.
If I was going to buy a pick up it would be VW Amorok.
Much bigger backs than the Mitsubishi and Fords plus much more like driving a car.
Father in laws L200 gets around 380 miles to a tank.
Mates Amorok gets over 600.

Has anyone managed to find a good secure and waterproof back for pickups either flat backed or with the truckman type? It's the one bit that puts me off, the shutters seem to leak and the truckman tops look very insecure. If got a Berlingo at the mo which I'm considering chopping in for something with 5 seats. I like the look of trucks as I've ruined estates in the past after chucking wet gear in

I had a Peugeot Partner (same as Berlingo) until recently, perfect small fishing van IMO

Yes I've had a Truckman Aerotop on my Mazda for the last twenty years. They are perfectly waterproof when new. Mine leaks a little bit around the door, but nothing worth worrying about.
I know two people that have had the roller type tops and they couldn't get their rods in the back and said that they leaked like sieves.

Cheers mate, I measured a 18 model L200 yesterday and with the plastic liner it's 6'3 across the diagonal so the rods should fit across.
Like the idea of the truckman tops but security concerns me. Was thinking about getting one with a top and adding an upholstered ply deck to put the gear under

Hi Pal, i have a 68 model L200 with the back on, and whilst your rods may just fit in diagonally you will then struggle to fit any other larger items in....i pack the back will all my tackle, barrow, bed chair etc, and put the rods on the passenger seat... if you do put your rods in the back, you might damage them when you put any other tackle in.

Agree totally fella, I have the L200 and the 12ft'ers are a tight squeeze, I do the same as well, bedchairs in the back seats, bait, water, wheelbarrow with the unhooking mat on top then rods on top. I have a double cab and they just about fit in there. The 10fts fit ok
