This exactly, I have a couple of torches, some quite bright. 99% of the time I use on the lowest setting or red light, but particularly fishing rivers for barbel when I'm casting to a crease in the river, i'll light it up for the cast. I'm of the opinion fish in a colored river at depths of about 12-14 foot ain't going to give a sh1t!
People using high powered light that affects you when just sat nattering though is a bit naff

As far as I can tell no one has had a go at the original poster so I can't see the problem with people pointing out that bright light can be a nuisance. Yes there are people who will use them sensibly but there are also other people who won't either because they are selfish or they just don't realise they are being a nuisance. For those who don't realise then we are doing them a favour
