Noj - they wouldn't let me paint flowers and a cnd symbol on it, so I replaced the missile with a really big confetti bomb. Biodegradable of course.....

Done both.
Students have had work set for them weekly with a greater emphasis on Maths and English in terms of amount. Some students have kept up with this - some have done none at all...
Then Year 10 students were back in a sort of 'shift' approach (25% at a time on different days). SLT and middle managers have taken the main responsibility for key worker children throughout (including over what would be usually school holidays).
Done both.

That's a 'how long is a piece of string' one mate.
Private schools can pay over the odds if they choose to and depending on the school / subject / role it will vary. Obviously they are a very different beast and the pressures on teachers are usually very much results driven which I guess is expected when the parents are paying thousands each year.
Often extra expectations on teachers too - weekend / evening classes, extra tuition, house duties if it's a boarding school.
And of course some perks to it all with longer holidays / staff accommodation / meals / subsidised places for staff children...

That's good to hear.
My missus is a TA in a secondary and my daughter a teacher in a primary and one thing they've noticed is that those who put themselves out and go the extra mile are the ones that are always put upon whereas when the slackers are asked they will find an excuse, all of a sudden in lockdown there's staff that claim that they are vulnerable which they have never declared before, yes there may be the odd genuine one but it's generally the well known slackers that are the culprits but there doesn't seem much the school can do as the unions are too strong. It niggles my two a little but they'd rather work and be valued rather than be thought of as slackers.

you know what tinhead - everyone can have an off day.
with the c-19 thing I've seen a lot of really good practice from other teachers and some great shared ideas. I'm lucky to work in a good school with an excellent Head and that makes a huge difference.
we're about to become a political football again soon so maybe my cynicism will start to show through occasionally...

It is truly terrible
I posted on here a while ago, an old mate of mine is the same, head well and truly gone. He had been to Afghanistan, literally blow his mind. Not seen him for quite a few years and bumped into him in a pub one night. Unbelievable experiences, simply cannot handle it. Told him he needs proper help and support, been for counselling, didn't help him, very sad situation. There must be thousands the same. Like you say, they put their lives on the line for this country, we should do our best to look after them and there should be some proper support packages available to them instead of trying to sweep them under the carpet
