"nobody reads advertising. people read what interests them & sometimes it's advertising"(Howard Gossage)
I get that emails are cheap too compared to paid social ads etc but it's all too easy for marketers to get lost in their metrics - reach, frequency & attribution paths etc but without decent content it's all pointless & can quickly turn into brand negativity.
subsurface is the only angling brand I subscribe to & read - usually once a week with varied topics & even content outside of fishing (music recco's) - keeps it interesting & maintains brand awareness without being too in your face. gaz seems to have got the balance just right.

wrt marketing in carp fishing I think that it is typically VERY GOOD compared to a lot of other industries & the fact that in some cases a brand can actually make money on their marketing content but driving their customers to seek it out (youtube films etc) is amazing. the likes of korda, nash & ESP have it spot on IMO. simple, unique styles, enough variety & not too in your face.
I've had 3-4 DNA emails each day for the last 2 weeks now!
Was 1 a day up to that which is still a lot, 3-4 just annoys me, I would unsubscribe if I could be arsed.

I'm a dna user and have not long placed an order because of the Black Friday deals but even today I've had about 5 emails and it is getting to much now,it's even at a pint I'm getting 3 upwards a day

Most marketing types don't like it when you question the metrics, the way that reach of millions, views in the thousands, and opens all funnel down to 3 people actually clicking on an email link and no one actually buying something. But look at the reach!

Just unsubscribed after the 5th email today. Complete overkill.

That's part of the problem, companies send email because they are cheap. So it means they can flood them out, working on the old adage that if someone gets one at that moment they want something, they'll buy. But forgetting that it pisses people off, and many people don't even look at them (previews in the email program often show as opens in the metric software) these days because they get so many.
And, as you said, even the people who send them unsubscribe from other companies emails because they get so many!
But, it's cheap 🤷🏻♀️

That is the beauty Frothey, you can unsubscribe if you don't like it. The brands i have unsubscribed to (not fishing btw) are brands that i have bought from recently and no doubt will do again. They are good quality brands with good quality products. Me unsubscribing is not me saying i don't like this brand anymore it is just me simply saying at this time I'm not interested in what you're selling. It's not that deep.
I think the the change in GDPR rules makes it so easy now to opt in and out of this kind of marketing that perhaps it makes it easier to manage for people? Surely it is now the same as the xmas adverts for supermarkets. How many times do you see them a day? What about the same FB ads you see multiple times a day? You either scroll past or switch he channel but it is still an inconvenience or intrusion. We can't escape it nowadays unfortunately.
Either way, it has been noted

Hi Jason, regardless of whether it's possible to unsubscribe or not, do you think it's acceptable to send customers three marketing emails a day? I don't know any other company from any industry that is as relentless as DNA with email marketing.
That kind of thing just grates on a customer, of course you can unsubscribe but if you like the bait how do you then hear about new products etc? This method does the good product available a disservice.

To be fair
I unsubscribe to any marketing emails as and when I feel the need to.
Any more than 1 marketing email a week is too many IMO
If I want to check on updates to products etc
I just open socials or just check the website.
I don't use DNA baits btw so have never subscribed to their mailing list.

Normally, of course not, but the Black Friday period is a bit unique in this sense and admittedly it can be full on during this period. Like i said it has been discussed in the office and feedback has been passed on to the marketing team. It will be dialed back and more consideration to current customers given in future. Thanks for the input, it is always appreciated, good or bad.

No problem, I am always happy to try and help if i can. It matters to me that customers are happy, or indeed unhappy in this case.
Regarding the bait, not in the conventional way no. It's been many years since we brought a 'normal' bait out and the next one will be no different
