8 anglers. 6 are doubling up, but there are 9 swims. One of the double-uppers is a husband and wife,which is the complicating factor. My grumble is those choosing to double up are first in the draw. The 2 of us fishing alone are effectively 4th and last in the draw.
My point is they are choosing to double up, they don't have to and this disadvantages the 2 of us fishing on our own. We all paid the same money, so we should all have an equal opportunity in the draw.
My wife not fishing is irrelevant to the draw as there is a peg for every angler.
My view is there should be a draw and if anyone wants to invite someone to join them, that's fine. But that person then drops out of the draw. Much fairer IMO.

So they've got a pick of 4 double swims and end up occupying 3 of them leaving one of those going into the draw between you and another so you both have 6 swims to choose from even if your second choice of the single anglers you have a pick of 5 swims, sounds to me like you get a better deal per say as they choose between four swims and worst case you get a pick of 5, are you friends with these anglers? I've been to France on socials with mates many many times for years I personally couldn't give a monkeys as I treat it like a holiday every time catching a few is a bonus in fact even if we have draws at some venues I dont pick I'll opt to go last and take whats going especially if theres a few that might be going for the first time or haven't done much in France before, I get a buzz watching or helping them catch, on many occasions that's worked out for me as well winding in spending most of the day enjoying the break.
Nothings guaranteed if you were first out and had top pick or whats deemed to be the going swim theres nothing to say you'll do any good in it.
Go have fun wind the rods in have some good food and beer chew the fat if you catch a hat full or a few cest la vie.

That was what I was actually thinking myself, I can't see why they'd argue with that.

We used to go as three anglers and if 1 of us was struggling there was always a unwritten rule that we'd swap swims or fish alternate runs if they cared to join whoever. Over the years it's become more about the whole experience rather than a fishing holiday, I do feel that I missed the 'bigger picture' when younger, fishing hard, but I guess a lot of us getting to a certain age have done that.

If they are all going to draw they are single and fishing separately. So tell them you want a pre draw it all are fishing single. Put one to eight in the hat everyone draws a number. That then says you draw 1st 5th or last.

Each double swim should be treated as 2 singles and all swims should go into a hat and be drawn as singles.
Once everyone has a swim allocated there is no reason why anglers can't mutually agree to swap swims if they want to be with buddy.

I'm with Carpstar on this. If the other's didn't double up you could be in a situation where you're 8th in the draw and only have 2 swims to pick from! Just go, have a great time and feel a bit smug if the swim you end up in turns out to be the lucky one!
