I can thoroughly recommend East Coast Rod Building from near Clacton in Essex.

50mm butt rings look carpy. They where a fantastic marketing tool to get everyone to buy new rods..... bit like the craze with 10fters. You prob dont need em.... but the tackle companies will convince you you do...then once it becomes trendy...the the floodgates open and everyone gets them, then you end up looking at them sat on your buzz bars, those gleeming 3.5tc 50mm butt rings that could cast to the moon.... but your fishing a 3acre pond. .. left thinking..... why the hell did i buy these?

If you're long range fishing, having bigger larger diameter guides is obviously a no brainer.

Bumping this thread, ive noticed recently (although probably been going on for a while) mark tunley and a few others are using a 50mm butt ring followed by a double 30mm then single 25,20,16 and 16mm tip.

I presume to make the tip lighter and more responsive? what are peoples views on single guides on the tip section are they durable enough?

I ask because i have a set of rods built with double 3d kigans 50,40,30,25,20 16 tip the guides on the tip are certainly overkill and was thinking of doing something with them to reduce the guide size?

I ideally would like to keep the 16mm tip as on the french public lakes and rivers i often use a 0.7mm leader which creates a large leader knot and can pick up bits of weed etc

I have always been a fan of using a guide with a proper liner kigans or fuiji's as i feel they are better with the braid i often use.

What are peoples views on this?
