I gonne wait for Carp Den Bosch 2024 and hopefully the Okuma obsedian, the new Daiwa 23 emblem 35/54 and the new Penn Vantage XT will be there

When i got my reels services a year or so ago, i was speaking to the chap who does the service and Okuma reels can up in the conversation....he said whilst they are decent enough reels,getting any spares are a nightmare, so buy them with the mindset, that if anything goes wrong or gets worn then you will need to buy again.....
General advise was stick to the 2 big boys

Also nigh on impossible to get spare spools for many of their reels, even those still in production. I'm not doubting that they make good reels for decent money, but they do release a new lines fairly often and they don't support all models with spares as well as other brands. There's always a catch

I had some Okuma reels a couple of years ago and found them to be atrocious. Some people argue that they're so cheap as to be disposable, but I don't think that's the case for anything costing in the region £150.
I asked 6 Dutch carp stores that sell Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma, Penn Carp reels how Okuma and Penn compare to Daiwa/Shimano reels.
Common thread in all 6 answers:
When it comes to reels I would stick with Daiwa or Shimano.
On a Dutch carp Facebook group there were about 60 answers to the same question, many of them laughed and wished me a lot of fun with Okuma and literally said that it was just rubbish compared to Shimano/Daiwa.
Will see in 2024 Carp den Bosch or if they are all 3 in the store earlier which of the 3 reels (23 emblem 35, Obsedian, Vantage XT) is the most high quality to me.
When I saw the 23 Emblen 35 I immediately thought finally a 35 scw under 600 grams and my choice had already been made, but the Obsedian and Vantage XT are so good on paper that I still have some doubts, Shimano in this price range is for me a disappointment

Which Daiwa/Okuma models do you compare that you have used?
It is also the first time that Okuma has released a carp reel of this level that can compare with Ci4/Zaion V
I have seen/used the CB 60-80 and the T-rex, sorry but this is not an competition for example a Daiwa emblem/Shimano XtD

The Diawa reels I have owned have all been trouble , on the other hand the two sets of Okuma I have had have been very brutally abused and are perfect .

I think a lot of issues are depending on that particular model. Daiwa and Shimano both make reels ranging from incredibly cheap ,small match types reels upto large sea fishing reels. I've had both daiwa and Shimano reels that have been fantastic, and also others from them that have been utter rubbish. I've only ever had a couple of okuma reels and they were for a very short time and hardly used but they were ok, not bad, not amazing. That's not to say they don't do great reels too. Fwiw the best big pit reels I've ever owned were Penn, so neither of the 2 big boys in that field
