And check the capacity of the cars roof, which I bet is a lot lower than the box. If it's 50kg minus the weight of the bars and box, it doesn't leave a lot left to play with. Remember the long boxes were designed for skiing, and some skis and sallopettes dont weigh much.

What would happen to the car roof if you significantly went over the weight limit.
It would affect the driving stability but I've never heard of a case where the roof actually collapses.

It's not about the roof collapsing, but the mounting points on the roof can break when you have to brake hard.

Jic anyone reads or searches this we've got the Halfords 400ltr one, had it around 20 years, bed chair, chair, camoung tables, sleeping bags and all the light stuff goes in it with ease
