He gave me a 30 minute lesson into bream fishing in a match at saddington res. I'd put 4 in the net. Then he went back to his peg to win the match.

Awesome angler that would catch out of a bucket of water. He would always spend time to help young anglers catch fish.

Living in Leicestershire, I had the opportunity to go to Marks & Marlow a few times. The anticipation as a teenager as you opened the door, hoping he was in there. When he was, he always seemed to be sat on a box talking to someone. I never saw him serve anyone. They had the latest Daiwa carbon poles in at the time as well, all 10mts of them.

The last time I saw Ivan was not long before he passed away. I was fishing a match on the Loughborough canal and he came wandering along the towpath. He spoke to everyone as he passed them. I wasn't doing very well in the match, but that didn't matter, he made my day.

Just for nostalgia, Chris Yates and Bob James on Redmire. Even 30 years on I can still remember the first time watching the Redmire episode of Passion in my mates front room on trusty vhs.

Maybe bring John Wilson along just for fun. Imagine the 'sshhhhh' from Chris and Bob when old Wilson set off on one of his little moments...
