I used the xpro1 which was a first generation Fuji mirror less and the auto focus was trash on release. They did improve it over time with firmware updates but it was forever hunting and even then it would miss focus sometimes. I believe this to the same with many other earpy contrast detect af systems.

iPhone and any camera phones for that matter are still a very long way away from standalone cameras, hence why they still exist. I agree you can use one and get a half decent shot but with fake dof and poor noise performance, that's down to personal preference

Sure, if you know how to take advantage of it, and the OP already has a very capable interchangeable lens camera. I don't think a new SLR is going to help here.
I think he'd be much better served by either learning to master the a5000 (maybe with a new lens - the advice to get a 50 mm prime would be the way to go I think - although that's by no means necessary) or just letting an iPhone do the work for him.
You're quite right that it's a personal choice. While yes I'd get the best pictures with my a7r and one of my prime lenses, I choose to use an iPhone. I'm not looking to do anything fancy with the images, they're straight on my phone which is where I want them and the only place they occasionally end up from there is Instagram (which compresses everything to much lower quality than an iPhone camera produces anyway). And that way I don't have to lug the thing about, worry about it getting wet, muddy, nicked, losing charge, damaged, racking up the shutter count, manually download and upload the images, etc.
