Huge thank you for all your replies. It's something I'm really keen to explore, It is something that has interested me for a while, but to be honest looking at it briefly it's always looked extremely complicated when looking at nutrition etc.

Thanks again for all therg replies, I'll look in to things a little further and hopefully get some baits rolled up in the near future!

For some, making your own baits is an advantage. Once you familiar with the process, you can construct relatively cheap a great bait.
For others, it's a nightmare people are full of doubt and can't make up their mind about the composition.

In addition, you should be strong enough not to blame your bait when blanking for a couple of sessions.

Next to that all, making bait is a hobby within a hobby.

That's kind of another reason for me wanting to try it. I run a pub, don't get out on the bank as much as I'd like (I try for once a week but more often than not its fortnightly / every 3 weeks). If I can A. Give myself a real chance by working over time to create a very attractive bait, and B. Give myself something else to focus on while I can't get out, it's a win win 😂

Have you tried making pop ups/hookbaits first? Smaller amounts will give you a feel for it before diving into making kilos.

i used the forum approved mix as a great baseline for my mix.
i went back into the ingredients and swapped out the lamlac for higher quality milk proteins, added high amounts of hyro and a heavy spice package to it and a few other nice things.as mentioned in the below post i was after a great food bait as i was doing 48hrs a week i had time to introduce the bait and get them feeding confidently on it rather than putting a high attract bait in.

the biggest benefit when rolling your own is you control the cooking times and shape. i dont even roll half of my baits anymore, i gun them out and chop into random shapes and boil for 30 seconds, i only bother rolling them when i know im going to use a throwing stick. the amount of round objects going into lakes nowadays i think any other shape is massive edge. also paste is a HUGE edge. day sessions i use paste and nothing else. roll balls and wrap in tights for a hookbait. you can roll your paste, dust in semo and freeze them. keep them in a cool bag and bait up with frozen paste. 10mins in the water its de frosted and pumping attraction out.

rolling your own is a massive enjoyment for some, but for others their time is more valuable to buying bait is more beneficial, i worked 6am-2pm so i have all day to spend making my bait, but for someone who works 9-5 and only has 2 days on the weekend to fish id say buy your bait and use that free time fishing.
