I'd never claim a fish on someone else's rod, they did the hard bit so they can take confidence in knowing the got it right. IMO no one claims it!

Few years back, a lad next to me cast his rod over to the far margin, went and walked round and dropped it in by hand.
His mate was stood with the rod helping tighten the line etc. Whilst matey was walking back, the rod ripped off and his mate landed the biggun before he got back. What do you in that situation

If you didnt have contact with the fish it cant be you fish.. simple as that... doesnt matter whos rod it is...

What does ‘claiming' actually mean in this scenario? If you think about it it doesn't actully mean Anything. Who are you competing against? Only yourself. And deep down you know you didn't really catch those fish.

100% agree, all this 'claiming' business! What a load of bowlocks.
He reeled the fish in, full stop, end of. What is there to claim?
Was the op fishing at the time with his own rods? Was it a new PB or perhaps a BRCFC record? A new record for the lake perhaps?
Now it might be different if it was one of the 'Target fish' or one of the 'A Team' maybe an 'Old Warrior' or a 'Scaley Banger'

Had an incident a couple of years ago fishing a tricky pit, more blanks than successes. My left hand rod, fished along the margin went, as I lifted into it the right hand rod sounded. My first reaction was that I must have caught the line with my rod butt, but no, the tip was right round and line was peeling off. I let it go for a while thinking it would stop soon, but it kept going. Luckily the only other member on was within earshot, so he came round with his net and lifted into it, the line zig zagged all over until he made proper contact with the fish. I got my fish into the net and he offered me my other rod back, I declined, he'd hooked it so he might as well land it. After both were safely returned we had a laugh about it and, jokingly declared it half a fish each. We've both been carp fishing long enough not to get hung up about whose fish it was.

I went fishing for the week and a good mate of mine came to me to spend the day/night. As he snored his head off I baited up the area that night and then went for a 9155 up a tree just a few yards down from my swim. Alarm went off and I've never ever seen my mate move so quick as he shot out of the bivvy like superman and he's into a fish.
He lost it as it happens so is the loss on him or me because if the loss is on me then if the fish was landed is the fish on me?.

Alternatively how could I claim a fish that I had no contact with?.
