I still use a spod. Learn to fill it with a mix correctly and you won't get a spill, can also clip them up a rod length behind you spot and draw them back over to the float to be deadly accurate which you can't with a spomb, much more discreet, fly straighter, also if you get an alien spod they also retrieve a lot better than a spomb.
I'll use a spomb reluctantly if using maggots or casters, but on the whole I've just found they either open mid air, don't open at all, or open on the retrieve after not opening on impact, and then when they do open on the spot they make a racket.The best worst invention in carp fishing for me. If there was a way they could be made to work more efficiently I would use them for everything, in theory they are much better.

Yes ive got one of those, its pretty good as you say, but the payload in them is pretty small, but yeah i think they are a good option as well.

I prefer to ball ground bait in if it's up to 60yds or so. Even better that a spomb for getting liquid laden carpet out there. Quicker too.

Always made my own spods and they where fine a spomb is certainly better and increases distance and so I only use spombs now if I broken what I had and was fine with the distances I can achieve with a spod id make another one.
