I agree I remember around 1995 an article in a mag a young lad he was saying he's been fishing and keeps not catching he said it's because he hasn't got shimano baitrunners that is true it's a mad world you can get sucked in and be chopping and changing gear around
An old boy I fished with years ago said he spent thousands changing gear he said carp fishing is an illness lol

I am guessing you are new to carp fishing? Yes as others have said decent alarms with a receiver would be nice.
As for the rest wait until you have learnt watercraft it's all about presenting effectively a good quality bait in the right place.
Until you are confident in doing that and recognising any possible short falls in your current rods and reels reaching the right location to catch there is no need to change yet.

I'd be interested in how experienced your friend is,re the advice, I'm not being funny either..why I say this Is because the modern trend today as regards carp fishing seems to be using over gunned and powerful tackle..
Remember,it's not the gear, it's the person using the gear,..where you place your baits ,and how you actually go about your angling..
I've been carping a very long time,I use 2.5tc rods everywhere..I don't struggle to not enjoy myself..note the word ,enjoy..!

When we were fishing I was struggling to reach some overhanging trees about 100 yards out he said I wouldn't have much line left to play the carp if it pulled away, I think I'm going to look at big pit reels for this reason. I don't think k I have any reason for new rods so I will be keeping the same. I have decided to look for some alarms and reciever for the night sessions I plan on doing, any recommendations? Not wanting to spend a fortune but something 2nd hand and reliable will do me well.

Surely your reels hold more than 100 yards of line? Even match reels do. You don't need big pits to fish at 100 yards . And also not many fish will start pulling line off you at a 100 yards. Your mates "experience" sounds minimal with the "advice" youv been given

It all comes down to your budget,if I was in your shoes and you sound determined to.upgrade your reels ,I'd look at Okuma,the inception,in 6000 size
However,I'm not being rude,don't take this personal ok,it's not the tackle you need to think about it is the mindset and advice ,seriously..
I fish tiny ponds,like half n acre,right up to 82 acres,then 997 acres I don't struggle,nor do I want multiple rod or reel set ups,
Just enjoy the fishing,and learning processes, don't focus too much on having the latest ,biggest ,fastest, etc,you know what I mean..

I did think that to be honest, I have been fishing a few years but all the tackle does the same job to me obviously quality xomes into it but I don't want to turn up to a well known venue and be turned away because of my tackle ( I do suffer with anxiety and this would make me bin my gear )
I enjoy being on the bank just looking to upgrade what's necessary not looking for the next best thing etc.
I do appreciated everyone's advice

You won't get turned away for your tackle , not for anything except inadequate fishcare items net, mat etc, or unless you try something daft like fishing snaggy pits using 6lb line! Fishery owners don't mind if you use a £50 reel or a £500 one. And the fish don't care either

I like the nash siren s5 but I do like alarms with snag ears.

You can always buy separate snag ears, and they're rarely actually needed to be honest.
If you need a receiver it's the S5R alarms you need not the S5.
In terms of other options, personally I'm a fox fan, the mx+ are pretty good value. Prologic BAT alarms get good reviews on here for a budget set but I haven't used them myself.

Those s5r are actually bloody good little alarms. Outside of delkims I'd definitely have Nash alarms over fox or the other cheaper brands
