Read through the other thread but a pocket sized, good battery life, DAB+ didn't stand out. So if anyone can recommend one? Otherwise it's the Pure.

You need patience and a bit of luck but you can sometimes pick up UK stations such as Gold, Talksport, R5 on am (medium wave) in the evenings

I just bought a small Sony dab radio from curry's last year works perfectly for me and what I want
Got a Sony XDR-P1 pocket DAB+ for about £60. Very happy so far, will report on battery life in due course. Unsuccessfully tried to post a pic above. When I tested my old Pure radio at home it lasted almost 48 hours on continuous.

Yeah me too. Can't see a reason to buy an actual radio in this day and age - I have an app on my 12 pro and my iPad mini that I sometimes take fishing, I can literally stream 100's of channels, signal is web based, so super clean and you get web content with the stream - but I don't use an external speaker when fishing, AirPods for me. I use an Anker Soundcore when at home though. Use of headphones should be mandatory on some waters. There's nothing worse than fishing near some clown with a radio blaring out across the lake. All too common on some Essex club waters I fish.

I don't think that they are needed anymore but there is some convenience in having “a tool for a job” and isn't dependent on the mobile phone signal.
Being able to listen to the radio without running down the phone battery, being able to have the phone packed away but listening to the radio etc. can be useful.
All personal preference, and I'm happy to use the torch, compass and radio on my phone if that is all I have but given the choice I'll bring a dedicated radio, head torch and analogue compass.

I bought this AZATOM Pro Sports S1 DAB Digital Portable FM Radio from amazon last Feb . They still sell them at £33 something I believe . This does everything that I need and have been very happy with it . External speaker , rechargeable battery with decent battery life . Small and compact and a decent sound , very happy 👍
