Since the start of the covid epidemic and things started moving again, I have had many items delivered that have been supposed to be tracked and signed for, just left on my doorstep, behind the dustbins, inside the bins, in the greenhouse etc and I have not know about their delivery. Its only when I have checked online to see where my item is, that I see it has been delivered and signed for, but not by me, and then I have to look for it. Usually though the Royal Mail leaves a card as to where it is, but, should they themselves be claiming that it was signed for by the recipient?

And other companies, I have caught them by accident just taking a picture of my parcel on the doorstep and about to walk away and they have not even knocked on the door to see if anyone is in.

There are differing delays at different sorting offices G due to C19, RM are also struggling re HGV drivers inter depot so it may well still turn up.

On a side note, a scam at the mo and for a while, apparently this applies to the vast majority of couriers inc RM regardless of tracking.

Signed for, the person contests they signed for it, the courier says the they've fulfilled their part of the contract between you and them and you should take it up with the person. This seems to be also getting used for leave in a safe place a option which you can't de select on many services. Iirc one of the courier firms have removed the option of safe place, it's now home or depot.

If you put the senders address (your address) on the parcel there is a good chance they will come back to you at some point. Over the years I've had a couple of of parcels that I sent that never turned up at the other end......both times they found there way back to me after 3 or 4 weeks. The latest was a reel a few weeks back which was returned after I'd refunded the buyer. Hopefully they will turn up with either the buyer or come back to you.

Can't say I've found that to be true at all. I've never received a return to sender parcel and always put my return address.think I've had 5 or 6 go missing over the years too

They don't track Recorded Delivery whilst "in transit"......it gets scanned when you post it and then the next will be when it is delivered. Problem is, I have had some where the item has been delivered but is not showing as that on the system! This was happening a lot during lockdown where the Postie would just deliver a recorded delivery package and not get it signed for...

"Tracked" in the OP's situation would have been Special Delivery.

The Post Office clearly state that all Recorded does is get a signature to prove an item is delivered, there is no tracking service until it reaches its destination.

If it is any comfort, I had one that took 24 days to get to the buyer, (eBay) a couple of months ago so it may still get there...

I left a job recently (handed my notice and left that day!) that dealt with parcels. When it came to getting them out, no problem. Returns and undelivered were definitely the poor relation and there would be a mountain of parcels stacked up and one bloke would work through when things went quiet (which wasn't very often.)

Until they are scanned back into the system, they are in limbo. You might get your stuff back but I wouldn't bank on it, I'm afraid.

I posted 2 identical parcels ( chunky buzzbars) to two different addresses. First one turns up in the allotted time - buyer leaves feedback 👍

2nd parcel having gone through the same PO then goes AWOL resulting in buyer giving me grief. The post office where I posted it didn't give a ****. Just gave me the form to fill in after x amount of days. I tried to contact Royal Mail but the automated phone answering is designed to send you around the houses and never get a chance to speak to anyone human so it's just a matter of waiting until it's been missing long enough to try to claim.

After 4 weeks it popped up at the buyers house. No reason or explanation given. All through the time it was missing RM really didn't give a flying **** and didn't hide the fact either.

With online shopping now worth millions per year only RM could fail to step up to the plate and score in an open net

Seems that people aren't aware but since the pandemic started anything delivered by Royal Mail that needs a signature is signed for by the postie on your behalf so as not to pass the PDA between people and increase the chance of infection. The correct procedure your postie should be following with parcels is to scan it at your doorstep, place it on the ground, knock on the door then move 2 meters away while you hopefully answer the door and collect it. If there is no answer he should have a quick look for a safe place or a neighbour, if either of these are used he should leave a card telling you where the parcel is, failing that he will take it back to the delivery office but should leave you a card for that too. Anything that fits in the letterbox will be posted and all signatures will be done by the postie.

Ive made a similar mistake. Sold a fancy axe (of all things) on fleabay and sent it the cheapest way possible and it never made its way to the recipient, or it did and they claimed it hadn't. Anyway, as I 'sent it using the wrong service' ie not covered, I lost the item and any recourse for reimbursement.

Special delivery from now on for anything of value over £50.00.

Is that for me? I wasn't trying to defend RM, I know what they're like, I work for them. I was just explaining why you don't sign for things at the moment.

Nope, not as such. Just a general clarification that it didn't take COVID to make them **** 👍

Update
I've just received a 💩 email with a cheque saying the matter is closed.
The email was dated the 26th, I didn't submit the claim until the 25th so they have not even looked.
The matter is NOT closed😡😡😡😡
