I see your point, but the social media aspect and mainstream TV has made angling so accessible to joe public that day tickets and some free stretches of river are now a chore to fish.
As for my predictions for the year...
1) We'll lose another magazine or two. The print has been dying for years because you cannot re-invent the wheel.
2) Some bright spark will eventually create a business in Calais selling bait to the masses of anglers who will suddenly want to go to France when it re-opens, despite never wetting a line over there.
3) As said, baiting poles rather than the anglers involved will be banned as people proceed to purchase every spare section going and ship out baits where they should not be angling.
4) Instagram will still be unbearable and incredibly boring. When I was a kid, seeing a pic of a UK 40 or 50 in Carp Talk took an extra few seconds to move on from. Today, you flick past them like they are an advert because 99/100 that's exactly what they are, an advert from a salesman for a company. Hardly anything is sacred anymore.
5) and talking of sacred, the urban scene will have another explosion of popularity, which will no doubt bring it's pitfalls as we hear about little timmy getting robbed of his scopes on a park puddle in Slough or some other cesspit.
6) money and greed = scandal. We'll have a few of those too.
7) More exclusive weekly booking waters like in France, filled with big fish that has just left a stock pond. At present, we have seen a massive rise in (laughably named) "syndicates" charging upwards of a bag of sand. If that's the future of fishing in this country, you can keep it. An xbox costs just over 200 quid. Just saying.
Some things I would like to see in the future?
1) More accessible fishing for youngsters. It would be nice to actually find a pond with silvers in it, and not have to worry about a gammy 10lb mirror smashing the elastic, this leads onto...
2) Transfer fishing rights of all rivers and canals to local authorities like the French have. It maintains footfall, keeps eyes on the river in regards to poaching and pollution, and stops funds from clubs paid for by river anglers being funnelled into club waters. Plus, I cannot get a ticket for a stretch of river I want to fish because the membership is filled with anglers who have no interest in flowing water. A massive dream, but one that would benefit angling as a whole and will revive the match scene which has also been swallowed up by the obsession with pounds and ounces of pale mirrors.
3) For every pound of fish you stock into a lake, you have to stock a pound of "nuisance" fish to provide food for both predators and birds. It's also beneficial for both the ecosystem, and for kids getting into fishing. It will also make "syndicate" owners think twice about stocking a 50lb mirror if they know theres a truck behind it with 50lb of bream in it.
4) Children fish for free under the age of 10 on all waters, as long as they are fishing for silvers. Otherwise they have to pay. Gives an incentive for people to get their kids to do the "apprenticeship", rather than teaching them that fishing is all about pounds and ounces sat behind three rods

The bright spark creating the bait service in Calais is a good shout. I imagine if you could create a bait collection service near the tunnel you'd make a fortune before others did the same.

Otters will take many more big carp across the UK, and these losses will be put online to show everyone how devastating they are. Fence it or lose it.
Supply and demand will see most ‘Syndicate prices' jump up again this year or next.
For a lot of people, Pounds and ounces will be almost as important as likes, unless you truly fish for pleasure
Supply of tackle from the Far East will still be delayed and more expensive, due to Covid friendly manufacturing and expensive shipping costs.

Reels that you can disconnect the handle from the "drive" once you have the bail arm in the right position on the rests so that you can turn the handle freely and then put it back into "gear" when the handle itself is in the correct position so that all your handles match. This would avoid having to rotate your reels a few times, so that bail arm and handle positions are in your preferred position.
Me, I don't worry about where my handles are, but, "Tackle tarts" with OSD would crave for such a feature on reels.
