I'm not 100% sure, I'm assuming the EU has a deal in place with China, which we are yet to establish properly. Don't think it will be long, but just a pain while it's the case

It's demand around the world for goods out of Asia more due to covid than brexit.They just cant get enough empty containers into the ports there to cope with demand,they can then charge a premium for the containers they do have and the highest bidder gets it.Fitness equipment,tvs,computers are just a few items that have been a struggle to get hold of recently and it could still get worse

It's got quite a bit...
The EU had a negotiated import costs. Now we are out of it we don't, I think the they need us more than we need them argument was a bit of “porky”
Until future deals are done we will see hikes in just about every thing we bring in.
That's fact unfortunately but hey let's be pleased for extra money for the NHS that they voted for

In a recent Korda podcast, Damien Clarke explains exactly why container prices have increased and by how much.
It's to do with there being less ships operating and the ones that are, are focusing on the more profitable routes to the americas.
Due to america being closer to China than Europe, they can go to America and back twice, in the same time as it takes them to go to the uk once. Hence the ones that are coming to the uk are charging neatly 10 times what they were charging pre COVID.

Nothing to do with Chinese container ships avoiding the predictable chaos at British ports since "getting Brexit done" at all is it. Heading for the big EU ports and bumping us down the supply chain with extra transport costs. Fools voted many ways, especially the ones with no facts

Shipping prices have gone mad. Partly due to a lack of shipping containers and prices are always mad around Chinese New year. I was quoted 6,000 November last year for a 40ft open top container from shanghai to the UK. Come February the price had leapt to 28,000.
My shipping agent believes that prices will remain high for a good few months.
