The 45s (both models) weigh 610g where as the 35CW weighs 625g and the 35LD weighs 615g (sourced from the Daiwa website)

600g for the 35 SCW, these are Emblems. Balance is not just about weight. The 45 is quite a bit larger than the 35
I think there is a mistake on the Crosscast weights on the Daiwa site as the 35 should not be heavier?

Yes, I do admit to wanting to buy the 45's, because I thought I would be able to cast further. But after seeing all the posts, I think I won't. Technique is more important than the gear, which is what everyone has been saying. Plus the 35's are cheaper, and will, I agree, probably balance on my rod better. In regards to technique, I think i will look at a few different castings styles, and practise down a field with my rod and reel just work on my casting. Maybe even get a lesson with TE or some other casting coach. Thanks everyone for the info, I think I will buy the 35's and just practise casting and fishing at 100yrds first, and then take it from there. Thanks again to everyone for the info.

As I was looking into these reels for myself, I e-mailed Daiwa to ask for them to confirm weights were correct. They have responded and confirmed the 45 is lighter than the 35.

Part of the reels look to be moulded in some sort of hard plastic which probably brings the weight down

But would the 35's fit better with my rods? I've missed a deal in which they were 25% off. Silly Me. Should have got them while I could have. But I could get some 45's for the same price now, for about £100, so I'm still considering if it will make a huge difference if I get either one. As mentioned before the weight isn't the only factor when considering how a reel fits your rod, but overall will it have much difference if I get the bigger one?

People talk a lot of old rubbish about what can go with what and what will ‘balance' what. If you just want to go fishing then none of that makes a blind bit of difference, get whichever one you fancy, they will both be decent.

Exactly, balance on a set of carp rods and reels is nonsense imo, people go on about weight of reels but it's not like you stand and hold them all day so it's irrelevant
