Used to have the theory sp's and they were brilliant but impossible to get hold of now and going for more second hand than they used to cost new. I now use the new daiwa certate 19 lt's and they are the best small reel ive ever owned, the only downside is there quite pricey.

Benchmark? I think not! I had a pair of x-aero 4000 FA's - useless. Line was getting caught behind the spools - something I have not experienced with a reel since using 410's! I know others who have had the same issues. Also, the bail arm is very flimsy and one of mine got bent just being carried on a rod sling - getting a replacement was fun, not. All in all, a flawed design and questionable quality too. Sold mine after only a few sessions. If you want a decent shimano in 4000 size or larger, avoid the aero concept models! The 4000 OC is however decent, the 4000D or 6000D (EU) even better (I now have those) or a 4000 stradic is the reel to go for if you don't want a baitrunner facility. If you're on budget, the 4000 DL is very good for the money - I use those for barbel.
