To be fair, out of the many rods I've own I'd never describe them as stiff.
So from your experience fair enough.
As mentioned the weight of the Spod is a factor that's important, the real and line will limit the distance.

I've used the mahin knot for braid - braided shockleader and it's the perfect knot in my opinion. Make sure it is bedded down nice and tight, and don't trim the tag ends too short. I leave the tag ends around 10mm.
In terms of a loop at the end of the leader, i tie one really large figure 8 loop, then a small figure 8 loop at the end of the large loop. This created a tag that makes it easier to undo. Spod/spomb/lead/deeper can just be looped
On and off. Dead easy.

Ah ok I'd not noticed the use of a deeper, short term yeah use a leader, then invest in a decent reel and use braid straight through as they are the best things to cast out.

Worth mentioning it's definitely worth wearing a finger stall when casting with braid, especially if giving the biggun. My old man goes through golf gloves like they're going out of fashion, I use these with the other fingers cut off, rather than buying one.

Finger stall and in case your not aware wet the braid before you start casting. Keep the rod tip in the water on the retrieve as dry braid is prone to knot up during the cast.

Always use a braided leader (50lb or above) as you are then able to transfer all the power into the cast as there is little stretch. Don't be tempted not to use a leader even if you're only fishing @60yds, casting into the wind even at those close in ranges, you'd have to give it a bit more than usual. Casting with no leader will inevitably end up with a large Spomb going rogue on you.
Here's a good tip to save the crack off's: when winding your spomb back in, hold the line in one hand putting resistance on the line going back on the spool so it isn't all loose and baggy as loose braid on your spool is a sure fire way of cracking off. Spombs and or similar skip across the water with little resistance leaving your reeled in braid all slack... dodgement.
