I don't think you would pay that, you shouldn't be paying duty at both ends??

I'd agree. Shouldn't have to pay Vat both ends.
The problem is likely to be increased shipping costs, slower delivery, and the couriers being able to add on an extra 'handling fee' which could be anything.

That handling fee is the biggest problem at the moment no one knows what prices are...

I'm resigned to the fact that I'll just have to find EU suppliers for the stuff I buy from the UK. A few hundred quid a year on bait and tackle won't make much difference to anyone.
Unfortunately I know several companies doing the same and finding alternative suppliers, but their orders are worth millions (not fishing related).

If there are no new agreements between the UK and the EU as of 1 January 2021, the rules will change. Ordering goods via UK web shops will be the same as ordering goods from outside the EU, such as the US or China. In that case, you will need to pay Dutch VAT (BTW) on products that cost €22 or more. You will also need to pay import duties if products cost more than €150.
( 20%) of the amount you bought

Looks like it becomes similar now to the situation we have in the US when ordering goods from the UK.
Some UK vendors are set up to send stuff VAT-free to the US ( e,g. Johnson Ross).
We are then dependent on the whim of US Customs on whether they charge US Import duty ( and theoretically there may also be a local sales tax cost). They seem to ignore small orders.....And we can't import bait personally ( a few big retail tackle companies have handled the import paperwork for bulk bait supplies , Mainline, Sticky, CC Moore etc).
Post-Brexit the EU will view the UK in roughly the same way I fear. Or more severely, as the EU Regs are often more rigorous than US FDA ones...

If... It's January 17. Any idea about theoretical agreements?

I would imagine companies will be adding a pre paid customs charge to orders, a system which iirc has been active on Ebay for a while, so the charges are paid upfront at the sellers end, it speeds up the process.

when buying on eBay UK from NL import duties are being added to the purchase amount. As for ordering from a shop, I reckon that customs will add their import duties invoice to the parcel, or the courier company will. So my days of ordering from the UK are most likely over.

Johnson Ross charges no VAT to European customers, when logging in to your account, you will see the price payed is without VAT. You will have to pay it when collecting is done..

Makes me wonder why they do it that way, there must be a system like the Ebay 1 available to shops, or maybe they just don't want to pay for it.
I sent a Christmas Card to my Dutch relatives in Beek/Roermond at the beginning of December, I already had to put a customs declaration on it, the card I received from them didn't, not exactly a level playing field!
Oh well horses for courses.

Morning all
not fishing specific, but I saw this article which seemed relevant for this thread. There's a bit of explanation on charges once you get past the nice lady and her coat.
Thanks Boris
