Dependant what time arrival I'll order a takeaway and then put the bivvy up as waiting for said meal. Set bedchair up. Eat takeaway, sleep it off then set rods up.

Wouldn't have thought there were many lakes where you needed a mallet to get pegs in at the moment!
I deffo get brolly/bivvy up first this time of year - keeping stuff dry is worth much more to me that having the rods out for another 5 mins!

Nazeing Movie bank on the Central lagoon, no matter what weather you will always get someone needing to hammer pegs in, it is hardcore.
I was always ok with screwing my pegs in, but some people...
Personally, unless it is raining I always get my rods out first, my choice. I have had a few occasions with a fish on the bank before the bivvy is set up.
One at Earith springs to mind; I had finished work at 11 at night, driven straight from Ipswich to Earith, and caught a carp by 0:30. The bait had been in the water no more than 10minutes.

If I'm doing a 24h/48h/+ session, I tend to always set my bivvy and bed up first. It only takes me 10-15 minutes.
- Gives me somewhere to hide from the wind/rain.
- Gives me somewhere to sit comfortably,
- Gets all the heavy lifting over and done with.
- Tends to allow mw to more easily get to my other gear in the car.
- Gives me somewhere to pop the kettle on or take a power nap.
- I like setting my swim up, and tend to do it around the bivvy. I only fish a maximum of two rods and generally I get the first rod out as soon as I can and then take my time to decide how I want to fish my second rod.
It shouldn't make a blind bit of difference how people set about starting their session and anyone who looks to tell me how to do it properly or in a 'proper angler's' way is an arse.

To be honest I do enjoy watching the guy opposite putting his 2 man bivvy up, unfolding his wide boy bed chair
Setting up his spod station, his weighing tripod and finally his solar panel
Everyone to their own but it does make me grin 😂

I agree with most others on here..if someone wants to spend 20hrs of a 24hr session setting up their swim and only has the rods in the water for 4 hrs then that's his / her choice.....
I like to set up the brolly / bed and put other items in there locations. I like things my way in my swim...i will then have a cuppa and watch the water, and then decide on my fishing spots...sometimes i get it right and sometimes i get it wrong......
Pretty much I couldn't care less what anyone else does as long as it doesn't affect my fishing or my fishing experience....the lads on my syndicate know i like to be on my own and do my own thing and generally leave me alone...dont get me wrong im not unsociable and speak to the lads often on the phone / via text when were not fishing........
But what boils my piss is the fish care aspect....before I get the rods out, my cradle in all set up, landing net sorted, everything wetted and bucket of water ready etc..... in the past i have had a run on my first cast almost instantly of the bait landing on the lake bed and was fully ready to land and release the fish.....I'd rather miss a run / not have a bait in the water than have a fish hooked and not have everything ready....

Surely it doesn't matter if they are not bothering you? Maybe they no the lake better than you do and have done the leg work before, have caught a few over the years in a certain area of the lake? A lot of us keep notes for this sort of thing

I know the main spots in each swim but still have a little snoop around for anything new. Ill have a lead about then bivvy up, brew and a fag, get me **** in one sock, bait up, decide on rigs , rods out then another brew and a fag.

To be honest, I'm probably guilty of not spending much time finding the fish on my preferred lake. If a particular peg is free I will usually make a beeline for it. That said a blank on that water is quite rare, and to be honest of the 10 swims, I could get in any of them and achieve the same result - more or less. I can't be the only one who drives to a lake thinking is my favourite swim gone?
In terms of rods vs bivvy etc, I'll probably get my brolly up first before the rods go in, and that's just for a day session, since if it pisses down personally I'd rather not get soaked.
We're all different and each to their own I'd say and if none is bothering me, that's fine, crack on.
