Thanks for all the replies. It seems from this that they're a bit marmite. I really like the look of them but I'm a bit concerned that they'll end up scratched up and looking a mess. I think I been spending too long looking at rod builders websites and fab pages.
I'm not too worried about them being cold in winter as I don't catch enough at this time of year to bother me.
RigDemon they look really nice. I was thinking of going for centra locks too as they're a bit more of a sensible price than the waveforms.

I had black wave locks put on my custom builds about 3 years ago and they still look fine with no marks on them. I've just had a set of 10ft rods built and was advised not to fit fuji seats as they are not made in Japan anymore and the quality of them is pretty cr@p now. They've had to replace quite a few of them and have moved over to fitting sea guides reel seats.

Thanks mate, I was really matching up my reel seats and the titanium rings on these rods with my reels and I knew they'd all go well with these XSB's or my other XTB's.
I don't think you'd regret buying the ALP's at all. Good luck with whatever you choose 👍

Your right about the gunsmoke ones.
I had 3 matching on a set of customs, then as ive a water where two rod only which I fished for a few years you can see that they also fade a touch over time as well.
Other then that - never noticed that alps seats are colder or hotter in winter, and I really like them- for me I think they are more comfortable in hand. I cant remember which ones mine are but they are not the wave version

I've got gunmetal centra lock window seats - no scratches and again I haven't noticed any temperature differences vs normal seats.

They are definitely affected by temperature. Its metal at the end of the day, and will heat up in sunlight and get cold in winter, same way a car does. Doesnt bother some people clearly, but i didnt like it.

Not sure if this is down to that or just crappy paint. Cant say they feel any different other than that to the silver ones i have on another set of rods that are 14 years old now.

Can only speak from my experience and I've had 2 break on casts and not massive chucks either. A rod builder told me it was a regular occurrence on the c2ds. I spoke to Terry Edmonds and he to confirmed that he had suffered a few breakages on the alps reel seats. If it is a distance rod I would stay away.

Mine have done that as well, when I can be arsed I just touch them up with a Sharpie

Too late for that. Just have to put up with it. Kev Clayton did advise me that it can be a problem when I had them built but wanted black so gave it a go, it's only cosmetic, and if I stay on the left side of my rods, I can't see it anyway. Worst case I'll just re spray them at some point.

I understand that Terry has said this but it is only you that has actually come out and stated that it was a problem with the C2Ds. Do you know what other blanks Terry has broken with Alps because at the moment there is nothing conclusive. We are getting rod builders on here saying that they have had no issues?

Hi glen, terry has undoubtedly broke many blanks with and without alps seats. I can only speak from my experience and they are absolute pants. The problem i have been told is there is no flex in the reel seats and on compression of the rod the carbon can break inside the seat this has happened to me twice. And what's even more worrying is one was on a 100 yard chuck!. I hardly fish with them anymore I take other less expensive models that are more reliable and sacrifice some distance. When they broke I was using 15lb line I had no crack off or frap up it was simply the rod broke inside the reel seat. I paid full price for a top end casting rod and I'm left with rods I don't even take because I know they will let me down.
As far as saying I'm the only one to have issues I can assure you I'm not. I know multiple people who have had the breakage in the exact same place!. Most people have these rods and never use them for what there intended for. They have distance rods and use them to chuck 100 yards and sing there praises about how great they are. Thank you for the reply mate. The different people getting the breakages in the same place are they all with the Century blank or with other blanks? I can understand Terry and other extreme casters breaking rods due to the inflexibility of these reel seats as his images show the depth as to which blanks can be compressed and its frightening. Could your breakages be partly attributed to issues with the blanks or possibly the way the real seats have been positioned on the blank? Has anybody else had a breakage with an ALPs seat on rods such as Treb Lites, Free Spirits, Daiwa's or builders own blanks?
