Watching Micky Gray's podcast , he mentioned some people's history are in the future , and will be made as they are fishing for today's fish . Not my cup of tea , but it is for plenty of others . The angler obviously knows crap will fly , but at some point a claim will be made and accepted .

For the same reason that captain jack wasnt. The fish was imported from israel and stocked at a decent weight as opposed to as a c1-c3. Also, the lake is fed with a massive amount of pellet to make the fish weigh what are essentially artificial weights
Id personally love to catch a 70lb'er and not have to go to france etc. to do so but its not an english record for me

Rubbish the owner fed them pellet when they were first stocked for a winter and that was it.

It seems to me that these are personal boundaries and limits. Where does it all end? You say C1/C3, would a C4 not be acceptable, a C5, C6? What about we only accept the fry of introduced fish as anything that's even remotely deemed worthy?
You mention fish feed on pellets which gives them their enormous record breaking weights is a no no, and pilling in kilo after kilo of high nutritional value baits that get emptied into nigh on every water up and down the country on a daily basis is acceptable if a fish breaks the record, that's ok? You see where this all breaks down? Should we only accept records if they've lived their whole lives on natural baits and you catch a record on a worm?
As for imported fish, are they not all imports? They're not native to this country are they? I do see your point which is valid.
Please, don't take this as any kind of personal attack as that is not my intention and not meant that way. I too am not a fan of these waters, I'm just offering an opinion as this is all very muddy and not so clear cut to my thinking 🙂

I think everyone who fishes Holme Fen generally treats it for what it is and would not dream of claiming a record from there.

Hasn't carp fishing always been commercialised to one degree or another? Dickie walker with his MK IV'S, Kevin Maddocks with his bait, books and range of rods, Hutchinson with his vast supply of bait, tackle, books etc, Kevin Nash was about ages and ages ago flogging his gear.
I know what you're saying as I see it's got to a point of saturation and every man and his dog is trying to get those Carpy $'s. Makes you wanna take up fly fishing. I try and navigate my way through the madness trying my best just to enjoy the type of angling I've dedicated most of my life to the best I can.

Im going with why the record committee refused to accept captain jack and i totally agree with them
Im not knocking the fish or the lake though. It is what it is and although it doesn't give me what i want from carp fishing, id still happily fish the lake from a social point of view and with the issues around covid preventing people travelling to france etc. it 100% has its place, but id fish it with my eyes fully open to the fact that anything from there, regardless of size, simply doesnt constitute a record fish.

It seems I'm the same as quite a few on here I'd fish it on a social but that's about it and if I caught a record sized fish I certainly wouldn't claim it. For me it flies in the face of all the history fish this country still had it should be something natural and special not a carp imported and stocked at nearly 40lb
these lakes offer the chance for anyone to turn up and have the chance to catch the fish of a a life time. not everyone can afford £2000 a year for a syndicate, or are lucky enough to know people to get onto the lakes that hold these acceptable big fish, or have the time to put in at somewhere like burghfield, although I don't imagine that is easy to get onto. if people choose to fish them, who cares, as long a they enjoy it. British record or not, who really cares, I don't even know what the current record carp is, nor do I let it bother me.
