I think most anglers would have done both I know I have . Now time is more precious I like to fish . I fish venues to avoid the socials. Most important thing is to enjoy Your fishing and don't ruin anyone else's fishing time.

I'm lucky I'm on a syndicate with decent like minded anglers. Everyone's respects each other and mostly all about the fishing

I don't mind being sociable in the car park but once I am fishing I have no inclination to speak to other anglers. The lake is small and the last thing I want i someone stood by my rods looking over my swim and bite time.

I use to like a mini social while still watching the water but yeah some anglers don't go fishing there just socialize. There think there going fishing but there not there going to socialise of coarse nothing is wrong with that. But if these anglers really wanna catch fish there not going to learn by standing talking. I've been there done it. I go to the bank to fish and not talk to people I'd only talk to people now on the bank if i've knew them for atleast 5 years.

Absolutely relish the alone time and focussing in on the fishing and if I'm being honest I kinda resent it when people come up to talk to me.

total alcohol ban on my syndicate, how it should be..if I was fishing and someone fell in due to being pissed why should I put myself at risk getting them out, which I would try to do but shouldn't have to..

Used to do the social bit with mates on a club water when much younger.

Much prefer to be quiet and chill out on my own these days, dont mind the occasional beer when I fish but always fully capable of fishing properly. A quiet radio on after dark, but only loud enough for me to hear it.

More than happy to have a chat with other syndicate members (those that will speak to me!) but expect them to be sensible and stay back from the water etc, as i do if in someone else's swim.

Lucky, in that most of the other guys on the lake are of a similar mind set, we're there to primarily try to catch on a lowish stock venue so tend to concentrate on the fishing.

I'm the complete opposite to a lot of you. I fished alone for years and took my angling quite seriously. Now I'm more than happy to spend time on the bank have a few beers and a good natter with some mates, or even complete strangers sometimes. I know this costs me fish, but do I really need to catch another carp rather than enjoying some company?

Been at home for the last 5.5 months with Mrs and kids so quite happy to get out two nights a week.

I may chat to the Robin that sits on my rods at first light but that's about it.

Interesting one this. I enjoy mini socials on a 24/48 hour trip but its literally a few cold cans sat around eating bbq food. No loud shouting or music etc. Afew weeks ago I done 48 hours on a "runs" water (trades description act...) and a van pulled up opposite side of lake. Fist things out the back where 2 cool boxes, chairs and a bbq. Followed by shouting 4/5 pegs away to a chum to see how they're getting on. They literally drank and shouted for at least two hours before even setting a rod up. So yeah, as much as I like a little social, some people take it too far.

How do you get to know people for five years if you don't talk to them?

I don't go to pubs anymore. Really enjoy being social on the bank, and if we're subtle and not adversely impacting on others where's the harm? Fishing is different things to different people.

Just the sort of thing which I hate to see. Fishing is a country sport, not some zone for the plebs to ruin with their shouting, music and bloody lights. When I fish I am on the hunt, desperate to catch, bar the odd nights social with a mate, it is all about the hunt.

A mate and I do sometimes fish together dependant on our work, and our conversations cover thoughts and ideas on the lake, and putting the world to rights.
While it is social fishing it is more on both of us catching carp as well.

I don't like the drinking social with loads of noise. Fishing is a hunting pursuit, a take on from the oldy worldy catching to live, where you were quiet and learnt about the environment, although obviously now we return our catch.
Are you sure?
