Spombs fly alot further than cast out rigs for sure, agree with the lower down posts 160 is doable with the right gear.

What do people find if the best spomb or similar type product for this kind of range?
Also, looking at the alien spod has anyone tried a Korda skywinder as that looks similar albeit without the cord and bead system.

Korda spods are decent, just pain to retrieve from range. They get out there well though.

The beauty of the Alien spod or spods designed like it is once cast and it has deposited its load the cord and bead release from the metal gate and the spod comes in nose forward to stop it diving under on the retrieve, at 150+ it would be advantageous.
No doubt in the right hands the korda spod would get out there it would just dive all the time on the retrieve making it hard work.

Them original spods with holes in covered you in bait and were a killer to retrive

Used to have a small yellow one that went miles but only held about 4 boilies.

The Korda sky raiders used to fly out but had its flaws with it being a pain to retrieve and unless you plugged it you suffered spod spill. The spomb got rid of most of those issues although also has its own flaws.
People need to remember that fishing 160 yards is a bloody long way and most anglers are never going to need to fish that far out.
Like anything practice makes perfect and a lesson with someone like Terry or Hutchy is definitely worth it if you need to fish those ranges.

Mcf did a spod with the same arrangement years ago, when I could no longer get them I started modifying korda ones and did post pictures in another thread some time ago. The reason I like them so much is because you can get them to flip in the air and spray the contents over the area rather the let it hit the water.

Got me 3 alien spods from joss this morning, proper bits of kit I must say.
Had a mess with them and the clip bit its all well thougt out.
Wife is 50 this week so a few weeks of partying going on so won't get out with these for a while, braid due this week too.
Got 12 20mm boilies in just below the fins but could get a few more in if needed but will these just come out? And do you give them a dip first??
Got 20 boiles in the fox spomb the other week but I blew that one up, shame as it was doing ok

Lay spomb on the ground with rod tip pointing down to it, walk backwards until the line is going roughly 45degree angle away from you from spomb to rod tip with handle and reel right up in the air (gets the rod to compress quicker) stand sideways to where you want to cast (feet a little apart but not massive) stamp your left leg (pressuming casting right handed) forward about a yard and bring your left arm round in an arc as fast as you can, using your body to rotate (like a boxer doing an over hand right punch) pulling the butt of rod into just below your belly button (now the hard part) stop the rod dead at 45 degrees to allow the force to unload. Keep your eyes above the tree line in the direction you want to cast. Hit it as hard and fast as you can. Diawa j braid in 0.18 for line and a suitable leader.
Practice practice practice.
Not sure how its easier to cast a spomb that far as mentioned? I could get my baited rig 175 yards but spomb I was limited to 160ish consistently.. unless there's a tail wind then anything is possible. Medium size spomb for me.
