I put 12lb gr60 on mine and a 50lb armacord leader.

It's been stripped now, but I always used the Green version too! Maybe a dodgy batch somewhere along the line?

could have been, regards mono i had a complete set up that i left at my mates in france for years on the spod rod i had 10lb original fox soft steel (0.3mm) with a 65lb whiplash leader never once gave me a problem.
Id imagine most monos 0.28 upwards would be ok

It's probably hitting the clip too hard and/or using unbalanced gear. For example I had a similar thing happen when I swapped over to a 13' Fox XT rod just to see what it was like, only casting 60 yards not giving it the big one, well I still managed to hit the clip so hard the braid snapped at the leader knot
went back to my 12 footer and obviously have tried not to do anything quite as daft since, if I'd been casting over 100 yards it probably wouldn't of happened, it's all relative
